That Kenmore set is not older than 1982 and not newer than 1986.

Belt-drive, could be.  Perhaps someone can confirm from the photo in better form.

Yes the washer is a late production belt drive probably’85 or ‘86 and it’s newer than the dryer which is around ‘82 or ‘83. The washer is a higher end 70 series with 3 water levels and 5 temperature settings with the auto temp feature.

A good sign, really. It means they're getting snagged up instead of junked and recycled. I also think there's becoming an awareness of cheaply made modern appliances with very limited control (top loaders) and people are getting quite fed up with them.
