GE HydroWave - anyone have one yet (USA model)?

Good afternoon everyone:

I was curious if anyone out there has the US version of the new GE HydroWave TL washer. It looks similar to a Fisher & Paykel inside and has a 360 degree arc of agitation and is supposed to be gentler on clothes. I believe it is a direct drive system as well (no gearbox.) It sounds interesting especially since GE had such a bad reputation for eating transmissions since the mid '90's. I know that there was a post about one from South America here, but I am not sure if it is the same machine.

A recent review on Epinions gives it thumbs-down. Says it's very noisy, among other faults.

It looks like there are very few reviews out there on the 'net on these. Hopefully more feedback will be available soon for what appear to be interesting machines.

E-opinions

I don't know if I always trust what I read on those sites.

Sometimes people have posted a review that the description of which does not sound like the machine pictured. Many people not as fond as us of laundry probably think "that looks like my machine". Sometimes people just like to rant.

Speaking of ranting does anyone find some of the people who post on THS a little extreme? All these people who have gone from one high end washing machine to another and return them to the store continually sound like extraordinarily picky people to me.

A lot of those folks on THS are very snobby about their FL washers..and watch out if you ask for advice on choosing a TL washer. Some of the responses are downright rude.

Getting back to this new GE Hydrowave washer,..i too am very interested in how these would work also. The TOL models seem to be pretty sturdily made for a TL washer today. Hopefully GE will do well with these.

I normally don't like to poke people with a stick, but the little devil on my left shoulder is telling me to go over to THS to start raving wildly and deludedly about my 2006 TL Frigidaire----just to see what sort of vitriol gets lobbed my way. "I really love the plastic tub with those big drain holes. I'm sure it drains water much faster than other tubs!" or "I like how much the tub spins around during the wash. The clothes really move around a lot!"

I can see the veins bulging from here, LOL!

I went to THS and opened an account, fully prepared to begin my mischief. Then I looked through a number of threads at the Laundry Room forum and noticed how quickly they tended to descend into bickering. Furthermore, I know how much we hate it when a new face shows up here at AW looking only to provoke, as with the Liam incident of last week (by the way, Rickr, I want you by my side if I'm ever in a bar fight!). At any rate, my inner voice-of-reason rose to the occasion; I clicked 'Quit' returned to the best washer site on the planet.

I noticed a few of our regulars posting at THS, and all of you were playing nice, to your credit. Overall, I'd say we're a pretty civil bunch here at AW, kids.

Let me tell you about GE

I was at Lowes the other day and went and played with some of the machines.
I DO like the Maytag Centennial washers; I think the dryers suck.
Never been a WP dryer fan.

I checked out the GEs and I thought they were the worst machines there. If you open the lids and play with the tub, ie: grab the agitator and wobble it around, you get this LOUD metallic scraping noise on all the machines. Including the HydroWave.
It seems the machines don't have a top suspension anymore [which i hated], but a bottom pivot point like Maytag. However, there was still this loud metal scraping noise, and the tubs would not pivot in a perfect circular motion, but in a very rough, jagged motion, along with scraping sounds.

sorry........NO GE washers for me, EVER, if they're gonna act like that.
