A while ago my dad brought home this GE GUD24ESSJ0WW from the used appliance store scrap heap. The unit was dropped and needed a new lidlock and dryer timer. The original intention was to fix it up and bring it over to a rental property that a friend of ours owns but it didn't fit in the space. The old machines we took out of the rental property were a Frigidaire Gallery FL washer with a broken spider arm and an Asko Dryer on top. I have sense started liking the machine other than 2 fatal flaws with it which I was able to address one of them by swapping the console and the motor control board to match. Yesterday I found a GTUP240EM1WW. That machine was NASTY. I saw gunk inside the drum and the machine REEKED of cheap fabric softener, gunk and it had a dead animal smell. My father suspects there could have been dead mice in it. So I took the motor control board and console off of it and brought them home. I then used a cross reference tool to make sure the drive components were the same and the ones that were different part numbers were electrically the same so I swapped the boards over. I wanted to do this because the GUD24ESSJ0WW's auto load sensing almost NEVER uses enough water. And the GTUP240EM1WW had full water level control. The machine has ran fine after swapping the parts over. The only thing I hate about this machine is the first spin. It spins then stops and goes and stops and then spins up and during the fooling around. The fabric softener falls out of the dispenser and is wasted. So I just put the softener directly in the drum during the rinse fill.

GE top load laundry centers

They make these in both 24 inch wide and 27 inch wide and in both gas and electric clothes drying.

By default they’re one of the better things out there right now whirlpool used to be the top product in these top load stacks, but current offerings have problems whirlpool always better on the whirlpool dryer end.

These units are completely designed and built by GE Frigidaire has nothing to do with them. I believe they’re assembled in Mexico.

The washer performance leaves a lot to be desired, the newer versions have stainless steel wash baskets and have different and better motor and belt to arrangements , the big problem with these machines has been bearing failing and it virtually unrepairable. You have to replace the entire washer suspended assembly to do an effective repair on them.

For a long time GE was just exchanging the whole machine charging the customer half the cost of a new one usually about $750. I had one customer that had three 27inch gas ones after the third one went , they bought a Speed Queen stack from us. He said I’m done with this lol

With the bearing failures are you talking about the gearcase or the entire tub assembly? The gearbox comes with a new lip seal and bearings. You were also correct that these are made and designed by GE and I also believe they're made in Mexico based on the motor control unit having "Mabe" printed on it which Mabe is the Mexican GE.
The gearcase seems to be leaking oil and me and my father are going to attempt to reseal it, otherwise I'll just order a new one and replace it. The pump on the washer is also very loud for the first 5 or so minutes of running then it eventually quiets down. A new pump is something else to consider.
