Hello,

I have been trying to figure out why the oven would not heat. I think I determined it is the oven sensor. I tested the resistance and it was open. I then cut out the sensor and placed a jumper wire and the oven started to heat. My next hurdle is to find the correcto sensor. I cannot find a part number on the sensor. The model number of the range is a J478B2WH. Does anyone know where I can purchase a new or used sensor. Thank you.

I've owned GE P7 ranges from model years 1966 and 1969 (my current range). Your range was made in 1966 (based on the letter B in the model number) so I think it's highly likely that you need part number WB21X158, which is still available. If you trust eBay (which I do) it seems to have the lowest prices on this part.

If I can confirm my guess on the part number, I'll let you know.

Thanks Dean.

This is the one that I would have guessed. I will take a chance and order one.

While I am working on the oven, I am thinking I should tackle an issue with the left rear burner. It only works on high and not the other 4 settings. Do you think it is the push button switch?

Thanks again.

Shaun,

Confirmed -- you bought the right part! There's a huge GE parts catalog available on the AE.org site, and it includes the oven sensor for your range. Below is a link to the catalog if you'd like to buy a copy -- it's $9.84 for a searchable pdf file.

Good luck with your repair, but I'm pretty sure it will work fine.
