Hi,

I bought a GE Potscrubber 1200 at the ReStore. Could some one tell me when this dishwasher was manufactured?

Model # GSD1200T-02
Serial # SR701156B

I called GE and the guy told me it was manufactured in 1998. I thought the "Alice Blue" colored racks were from the 1980's. I wondered if the guy got the date wrong and maybe it was 1988?

Thanks for the information. I had heard that the 1200, 2800, 2200, etc. came out in 1984. I have seen a GSD1200G, GSD1200L, and GSD1200S. I assume the GSD1200T came after the GSD1200S. The letters must have been revisions of the 1200 model.

Allen -

Congrats on a great dishwasher. I hope you find it in good working order and that you enjoy it.

I have had two of these. My first was a GSD1200L, which I have found out was made in 1992 if I remember right, and now I have a GSD1200G, which was made in 1986. The L model had GE's newer ivory colored racks, my '86 has the same color GE blue racks as yours.

I can't say why, but I don't think GE made the series letters in alpha order, but who knows. I had thought that the L models were among the last, since 1992 seems like a late-build machine. I noticed at the time of purchase in 1993 that GE's control panels were being revised and modernized in preparation for the monotone control panel colors of the mid 90s, at least I thought.

I am posting a link from when I installed my 1200G, I believe we had a good bit of discussion about the various models. If you use the supersearcholator, you'll find more threads from the archives as well.

Good luck with the dishwasher!

Gordon

I was shocked at how new it looked, including the motor area. I can't wait to get this dishwasher installed. I hate the new dishwashers that take forever to clean and clean crappy. This dishwasher is being installed in my house, that was built in 2010. I gave away my new TT Frigidaire that was installed in my house. People think I'm nuts for wanting this dishwasher, but I don't care. Nothing cleans like our old dishwashers once did, before the Government came in with dumb regulations.

I currently have a 1993 KitchenAid Model # KUDJ230Y1. I found this dishwasher on Craigslist a year ago. The elderly owner bought it for his wife but she thought dishwasher were unsanitary. He had it brand new sitting in a climate controlled storage building all these years.

I like my KitchenAid and plan to keep it, but I miss the old Potscrubbers I grew up with. LOL!

Gordon,

Thanks for the link. I'll try the supersearcholator. Sounds like the blue racks were in the 1980's. So, I would think that my unit could be anywhere starting at 1984 and ending around 1990.

Hi David,

That KitchenAid was a once in a lifetime deal. I can't understand why anyone would buy something like that and never use it. You would think that he could have returned it and gotten his money back. You should have seen my face, when I saw it for the first time. He was asking $75.00 for it. He was a very old gentleman, who did not realize what a valuable dishwasher he had. He and his wife live out in the Madison County area. He told me that his wife, who is in her late 80's, was still washing dishes by hand. LOL!

Looks exactly like my PotScrubber 1200 I purchased May, 1987. The very first 1200 (also designated a PotScrubber III) came out in like 1978 or 1979. Debbie Reynolds had a magazine ad campaign Initially these were GE's TOL until the electronic control GSD2200, GSD2600, and GSD2800 came out. I'm a little envious you got one. Sometimes I miss mine.

Bob,

I enjoyed reading about your GSD1200. My parents bought a house in 1975, when I was 5 years old. This house was located at 1902 Randy Court in Huntsville Alabama. It was a 1967 Dutch Colonial two story house with neat appliances. The dishwasher was a 1967 Lady Kenmore Roto-Rack in Coppertone, and it was replaced in 1982 with a GE Potscrubber III. The Potscrubber was replaced in 1998 with a Maytag. The Maytag was there when they sold the house in 2002. My Mother hated that Maytag, because it did not wash good.

The Roto-Rack and the Potscrubber were my favorites.

BTW: The ReStore in Huntsville had lots of Potscrubbers. There was one Potscrubber from the early 1970's.
