We finally received our new GE refrigerator!
This thing is huge! It really dominates the kitchen with it's size. But it is nice to have all matching appliances again (SS).
The things we like about it:
The size! We'll probably never use any of the door shelves. You could cater a party for 12 and still have left over room in it.
It's quiet. I mean REALLY quiet. You can't tell if it is running or not even when standing next to it.
It has these sliding shelves. If you need vertical space you just slide the shelves backwards and the reduce to 1/2 their original size. You could store a vase with flowers in it that stands 4 ft tall standing up and still have room left over.
The last refrigerator we had, that wretched Whirlpool took 24 hours to cool down after we installed it. This one cooled down to 0 in freezer and 36F in the fridge in about 4 hours.
The dislikes:
When you use the ice dispenser in the door, it is LOUD! I mean you wouldn't dare use it if anyone in the house has gone to bed. It would wake them up.
For some reason the ice cubes are opaque white. The Whirlpool had translucent ice, but this one makes pure white ice and the shape looks like a turd. Literally.
Most machine ice I have seen has pretty angular edges and the cube shape is well defined. In this one the cubes are long and rounded.
I don't know what to think of the blueish LED lighting. Especially around the ice/water dispenser. At night when it's the only light on in the room it makes the already imposing size of the thing look alien. Very strange.
Any idea why the ice comes out white?
