GE timer

Hello all I have a problem with my GE timer the knob stem has came out when it was delivered I don’t know if something happened during shipping. Can I fix this or whAt do I do it pushes in and will rotate timer but won’t pull out to start machine. Here are a couple of pics.

I’ll have to refresh my memory on how these stems attached but you likely had a retaining washer of sorts break off or get dislodged. I’ve never had that happen but I’ve had to replace shrouds in those timers when the teeth are worn down. It’s totally repairable but is like performing surgery. The clamshell housing will have to be opened up and the floating contacts will have to be replaced in an exact way so everything functions properly and doesn’t short out. I have the diagram for this as well. If you’re not comfortable with timer repair then you may consider mailing it to someone who can do the repair for you.

Broken GE clamshell timer

It looks like the end of the steel shaft has broken off you need a new shaft I could confirm if you took a picture of the shaft sideways.

The shafts are still around, it may not involve complete disassembly of the timer.

But Jons advice is good if you don’t wanna fool with it you may have to get somebody who’s good with puzzles the timer is completely repairable. GE did not generally cell complete timers for the style washer you had to repair the existing one.

Guys,
yes it seems to be broke off I opened the cover and there is a indention in the back and I can push in the hole and it turns the timer on and will run. I don't know enough to tear it apart unless its very easy. and where would I get a stem? I knew you experts would be able to tell me how to fix.

I have a couple of spare timers so I’m sure I have a stem. I’ve rebuilt a few of these so if you need help rebuilding I would be happy to assist. Gotta keep these classic machines running!

Yay, Jon! Glad you had a spare. I only had some NOS hubs and knobs/clips on hand.

Looks like this washer is an NB, which looks as if the rev B models have the updated timer with the plastic hubs (WH1X2188) vs. the rev A with the metal hub (WH1X1941) - part 7 on the diagram.

While the shaft is then dependent on being either a metal or plastic hub, the detent pin - part 11 on the diagram / WH1X1498, is the same on both and I bet that clip is missing/broke.

Mine has the little clip on it as well so I’ll be sure to include that. I do have a repair manual with the specific contact placements. I think it’s been posted on here somewhere before but I can always just copy those pages and send them along with the part.
