GE vs. Frigidaire

I have a question about the new GE and Frigidaire washers. Are these brands made by the same manufacturer?? I have found so many similarities that it is weird how two different companies would make their machines the same way. Check out the videos and see for yourself.

1. Both of these machines have plastic tubs.
2. Both have indexing tubs.
3. Both use neutral drain.
4. Both spin counterclockwise (even with the dual action agitator.)

And as a side note, both have been known to not be very reliable in recent times. Just wondered as these are the only machines that I have ever seen that have indexing tubs and spin counterclockwise with dual action agitator.

The Frigidaire washer is made by Electrolux (although they are equipped with Franklin transmissions, a holdover from when White Consolidated owned Frigidaire in the early '80s) and the GE is made by GE. I have the TOL Frigidaire toploader, model 1749. I've posted 3 videos of it in action on YouTube.

I'm not aware the GE's have indexing tubs. I don't think they're supposed to index.

The Frigidaire has a traditional long, slower agitation stroke. The clockwise stroke is significantly shorter than the counter-clockwise stroke. The heavier the load, the more the tub indexes and the longer the counter-clockwise stroke.

Actually, both the Frigidaires and GEs have improved significantly in the reliability department recently.

The GE is definitely the better washer. I bought mine as a companion to my Frigidaire FL'er, and to get the last of the old-school Franklin transmission washers. While I've grown to like it---the indexing tub and subsequent clothing movement is quite entertaining---I really wouldn't want it as my only washer. It's a pretty crude, basic machine. Handles unbalanced loads amazingly well, though.

Hi ho! Those you tube videos are mine
I have a GE top loader bought new and my dad uses a used frigidaire top loader i got for him.. Both are basic $299 units.. They are equal in most rights except the frigidaire doesn't fill all the way up with water like the ge does.. The ge has some kinda funky rubber band mounting system for the tub which i am not overly fond of.. The frigidaire is a tad nicer machiene in my book if you watch how you load it and be mindful of the water level.. I needed something my other half could do cloths in easily and well the GE works fine.. Makes some odd noises and such but hey it cost $300... If it goes kaput in 5 years well thats great, cost me $60 to use, cheaper than a laundry mat (i wash 5 or so loads a week, so we're fairly normal i guess)

Side note
My dads has the basic agitator not the dual action.. The frigidaire wouldn'tbe a good choice with this agitator..

Get the GE from Best Buy and you'll do fine
