Ge washer with power rinse stainless steel tub

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I found the information in the recent thread Speed Queen the Only "Sane" Modern Washer Left? in the Deluxe forum interesting. One thing stated about the SQ was how it didnt have a board with electronic controls which is a plus.

Recently I was in Home Depot and took the opportunity to check out the appliances. I paid particular attention to the GE TL washers and found this GE for $498.00. What caught my eye was that it appeared to have non-electronic controls like the SQ. I was impressed by the SS tub. Only thing I found disappointing was it didnt have a soak cycle which the more upscale model, $150.00 more, next to it did have. Our current 2003 GE has the soak 30 min - 15 min feature which I like having.

The more expensive model had a row of indicator lights above the timer. It also had an off button to the right of the timer. Seeing those lights gave me the impression it might be better to go with the cheaper one?

Fill Level

IIRC, these are the hydrowave machines that only fill to 1/2 full when on the SUPER load size setting.  Wonder if they can be adjusted...

And like all GE

the outer tub is plastic.

That agitator is the twin to my circa 1999 Profile agitator.

Is a plastic tub

a bad thing? Our 2003 GE has plastic inner and outer tubs. Cant find any fault with them during the time we've had it. My sister bought a new Maytag about five years ago. She never liked it for more than one reason. She always mentioned it didnt spin dry the clothes as well as the GE did.

One thing I noticed about the Maytag was how, after just a couple years, rust started to form around some of the tub holes. IMO this was a result of the porcelain on the tub being of such poor quality compared to older models.

I installed a new timer in her circa 1995 GE and put that back into service and the Maytag was retired.

The clothes drum in that GE washer looks like a cheese grater-hope it doesn't cheese grate your clothes!Think I would let the GE washer lie where it is.Get a VINTAGE GE or new SQ or some other VINTAGE TL machine from a swap shop. And if that GE doesn't fill up its tub all the way with water-what good is the agitator?Dual action at that.

Well, I kind of take the attitude that the reason why I don't like washers with plastic tubs is the same reason why I don't like plastic toilets. There is a very good reason why the toilet in your home is made out of porcelain!

I think it's pretty awesome that GE at least offers SS tubs in their lower end models now. It used to be that they only offered them in their highest end models. All the lower end models either used Porcelain covered steel inner tubs or plastic inner tubs.

The agitator and tub in this washer is pretty much identical to the one I had in my 2003 TOL GE TL. What surprises me is that GE is still selling washers with mechanical timers in this day and age!

I don't like plastic washer drums either, inner or outer drums.Does that
GE washer fill all the way with water so it can make use of that agitator?Wouldn't do much good if the tub fills only a little and that agitator is just paddling damp clothes around in the tub.I like TL's but only if it fills ALL THE WAY with water.
