Does anyone have experience and / or knowledge with the current crop of GE appliances since they've been bought out? Am looking to replace my 5 year old KA DW, but want something besides Whirlpool family line. Went to Home Depot the other day and they had several models of GE, more so than other brands. They didn't look bad at all. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, I guess KA's quality has gone down hill (like with everything these days?).<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>I only replaced my 19 year old KA DW on 12/30/18 is because the heating element stopped working a couple years ago.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">   </span>Never had any other problems with it.

 

<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I replaced it with a new Bosch that I've been very happy with.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>It's whisper quiet and cleans better than the KA ever did. (doesn't leave yibbles on things in the corners of the upper rack).

New Mid To Upper End GE DWs

Are a reliability nightmare We are throwing out a lot of them, Also skip any LG, Samsung Frigidaire and probably Bosch.

 

We pulled out a 2016 Bosch the other week [ customer bought a new Maytag ] I though the Bosch looked to new to scrap so we pulled it into the shop and fixed all the broken wheels, filter parts and broken door handle.  We got it working and it is still in the testing area But it is a cheaply built DW, I would rate it no better than a Frigidaire.

 

Best you can do is a Maytag for overall performance and reasonable degree of sturdiness.

My “old” GE Profile dishwasher was 2.5yrs old when the racks started rusting and the motor started leaking!
1yr warranty only on GE.
I do hear that GE ranges/ovens are still market-leading.
Well built, perform well.
Fridges are better than some.
GE laundry is very spotty, I’d avoid unless you’re in a pinch.
Oddly, their newest Chinese front loaders are selling very well with very good accolades.

Depends on which Bosch

dishwasher it is. My dad had an assentia model, and lasted about 4 years before the wash motor failed. My sister got her uplevel Bosch 5 years ago, with a $900 price, and it's fine.

New GE dishwasher

I have anew GE dishwasher, and love it. I never rinse the dishes, leave them for 2-3 days before running, and everything comes out spotless. Never does anything have to be rewashed Its a mid model.

Love my GE Profile

I have a stainless Ge profile I bought five years ago and its the best dishwasher I've ever owned. It cleans anything I put in it and is super quiet. The racks are sturdy and well designed. It has the X style wash arms on both racks. Love this dishwasher and wouldn't buy any other brand!

About 13 years ago, I bought the cheapest air conditioner I could find to put in my kitchen window.  I bought a Haier 5000 BTU unit for $92.  I'm very impressed with the quality of it, and it still works like new. 

 

Perhaps Haier can do something to fix GE.  GE has been building a whole lot of American made junk since the late 1970s when I worked for them.  I have heard, however, that GE's recent dishwashers are quite good.

Don't follow the propaganda against GE appliances.

There is nothing wrong with GE appliances. It's all in how they are used.  All appliances are good if you take care of them. I have a refridgerator and Washer both GE and have given me trouble free years of service.

Propaganda you say?  They had a bunch of bad refrigerator compressors circa 1960, then in the late 1970s, then again in the 1980s.  The last of the Filter-Flo clothes washers were poorly assembled.  The Plastic-tub clothes washers that came after were a complete disaster.  And then there's the way out of line prices on genuine GE repair parts.

 

Don't get me wrong, I love older GE appliances, but to see what has happened to them in the last 40 years is very disappointing to me.

<span style="font-size: 14pt;">Since I saw an endless supply of stuff come in as trade-ins due to the tremendous sales volume of the store, I became a teenage "expert" on what was dependable as far as used refrigeration. </span> <span style="font-size: 18.6667px;">Used refrigerators were never repaired for resale unless it was something very simple like a light switch. No cold controls, defrost timers or anything like that. If they didn't work they were scrapped. </span>

 

<span style="color: #008000;"><span style="font-size: 18.6667px;">I always hated to see what I called the GE "June Cleaver" refrigerators get hauled away. Almost all of them were shot and had bad compressors, something I blame on the wire, cooking-grease-laden condenser (people did a lot of electric fry pan cooking back then) which was very hard to properly clean (my own uneducated theory). They were such attractive things with their modern styling, swing-out shelves and generous interior lighting. It just seemed a shame to dump them. The very common, older top-freezer GE's with their back-mounted condensers...they always worked. </span></span>

 

<span style="color: #008000;"><span style="font-size: 18.6667px;">Don't feel too bad. All of the Flair ranges (and since Frigidaire was the store's main brand there were a lot of them) were all scrapped too. I do realize this thread is primarily about new GE appliances.</span></span>

I wouldn’t spend any of my hard earned money on a GE appliance right now. The house I moved into recently has a GE washer, microwave, and range and only the range is worth anything, and I only say that because it does indeed get hot and cook food. The washer is a BOL top loader with an agitator that’s nearly new, it does not agitate well at all, frequently items come out in exactly the position I put them in and that’s regardless of load size. There’s also no hot, it says hot, but what it actually fills up with is barely lukewarm. Every other tap in the house will scald you horribly in just a few seconds but this washer, which is in arms reach of the water heater, puts out water too cold for me to shower in. The microwave is just a few years old and its handle has broken off and the trim pieces are cracked and trying to fall off. My elderly dad lived in this house and bought these appliances new, everything else he has ever owned has lasted years and years and been taken care of beautifully. I’m either supposed to believe that these GEs are the only things he ever abused or the quality just sucks and I should steer clear. I think I’m going to steer clear of GE.

no matter what the brand will give up in 5 years or less.  I know someone that has become a pro at swapping his own out.
