It looks almost identical to the mid-70's Kenmore that replaced the super BOL 1970 Signature portable in my parents' kitchen, except the one pictured has more buttons/cycle options.

Exception to the D&M Rule?

Actually, the Kenmore experience here was all good.  Never any repairs.  The harvest gold racks eventually got some rust happening, the paint on the top portion of the access panel started peeling, and finally a door spring snapped after 15 years of use so that was when it got replaced by a capable but much, much more noisy Maytag Jet Clean.

Was your Kenmore a Lady Kenmore or upper-series machine, by any chance?

For some reason, upper-series D & M machines seem to have a better track record.

My guess is that it was MOL at best.  It had only three buttons compared to the five on the one pictured in the ad.

 

I think they were Rinse/Hold, Normal, and Pots/Pans.

....My Dad and step-mom had this when their new house was built in 1977---it lasted till 1985 when they replaced it with another D & M...that lasted till 1998 when I replaced it with a Whirlpool....
