Fair or not, it's the game...

Whatever your opinion of these auction sniper services may be, the reality is that this is now the playing field and the new rules of the online auction game. If you want to win something you really want, you have to compete with everyone else out there. I swear by these services and wouldn't have won the Maytag dishwasher yesterday without it.

I agree

Like Greg said, if you want something on eBay you have
to do the work to get it. I too have bid at the very
last second and won. I've even had people email me at
the end of the auction asking if I bought the item just
so I could resell it and if so, what would I want for it.

I admit I hate being outsniped by someone else but it
seems to be the only way to get something that is in
demand and collectible and hard to find all at the same
time.

My advice is: don't bid up the price early on in the
auction. If you want it and are willing to pay what it
has been bid up to, put in your bid as close to the end
as possible.

This is only my opinion and all may not agree.

I'm still wondering if by posting the good stuff here in the group, are we shooting ourselves in the foot.

It may be slightly conceited for one to believe one's posting of a certian auction alerted those not otherwise inclined to troll through eBay looking for vintage appliance auctions, but it has been noticed certian auctions in the past have attracted the same several persons.

It would be a shame of the group turned into a clearing house for those seeking vintage appliances on eBay or Craigslist but not wishing to do the leg work themselves.

As for sniping, if one truly bids the highest one will go at the start, then that is that no matter how much or when someone else bids. If one wasn't willing to pay $500 up front, then sniping the same amount at the end may get the item, but one still would have to pay the $500 providing that is where the final sale price was.

Well Laundress

I have purchased an item or two because you provided a link to it here, so in that sense, it's helpful. On the other hand, I do a lot of trolling of myself, and will only post a link here if I'm not going to bid because I don't want the competition. Like that pair of Maytags I recently posted a link to. I kept it to myself when I thought I'd bid on them, but then posted here when I knew I wouldn't.

I doubt if a lot of people outside the group are using this site to find links to good auctions. On the other hand, I have gotten hits on this site for the craziest things. I have gotten hits on this site for key words that I have posted only days before. People pay millions for the kind of Google ranking that this site automatically generates. Having said that, because of the design of this site, you usually get a Suds Lock or whatever it's called when you click through, so you don't see anything anyway. Someone from outside would have to navigate the site, not use Google if they wanted to gleen the info here.

Hi Laundress...I too have purchased items on ebay thanks to your links. I do check ebay but I sure appreciate your links. Please keep them coming.

Yay Donnie!

I was so hoping you would be the winner.
I knew how disappointed you were over losing
the last auction. Congratulations and happy
times ahead. The set looks to be in great
condition and the manuals look mint too.

What a great Christmas present for yourself!

Hey everyone

I have a question. Now that I won the set, I have been planning a trip out to PA with Christopher to pick them up. This is turing in to a logistics nightmare, we figure between the trailer rental, gas and a hotel. It's going to be about $500. Between the money on our time, I was wondering if it would be better to ship them. Does anyone know any good shippers?

Shacking up

I'm a half hour away for York. If you want to hole up here for the night to avoid having to pay for a hotel, you are welcome to. You can also rent a trailer here and take it back with you so at least you won't have pay for a trailer both ways. Maybe you already planned to do that, but just in case. There are U-hauls all over the place here. One is minutes from my place. I'm sure York has a number of U-haul places and other one-way rental places.

Depending upon how soon the seller wants the appliance out, you have a few options. Versatronics generous offer, or contact Craters and Freighters.

Craters and Freighters are not the most inexpensive option, but if one figures in one's own time and expenses they may come in pretty close. If you could get a cheap flight, bus, train out to PA, rent the U-haul and a car at a good rate, then drive back (factor in gas, hotel, rest stops), it may come in less than using a freight service, but this is the holiday season and for many time is short/valuable.

Thanks guys

Time is a big issue I want to have these babies Christmas, so I can show them off.
Versatronic, thanks for you offer it was VERY nice, but Christopher is a terrible snoring problem, I wouldn't want to have to subject you to that horror!!! Really the major source of the cost is the U-Haul, they want to $320 for a one way trailer. I have since found that they rent open trailers for about half the price..
Laundress, I'm going to check out your Creaters and Frighters idea.
Thanks everyone
Donnie
