Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

WV-65 in Sherwood Green!!

It sure is, Paul! Wow, this might the the earliest non-white Frigidiare washer to have surfaced. The last year of the WO-65-2 line in '54 had the color options, but I don't know that anyone has seen in recent times either a '54 or '55 Frigidaire in Sherwood or Yellow.

I certainly hope someone is able to save this beauty.

I heard back from the seller and she wants to learn more about the washer. She said someone had already offered $500 for it. I asked that she send me a money shot so we will see.

"She said someone had already offered $500 for it."

See what I mean?

Something that was previously being given away now has a seller reconsidering that offer. Obviously person or persons have been whispering things into her shell like ears and now we're off to the races.

Sometimes think it's better to do a whisper listing when finding such things.

...now has a seller reconsidering that offer

And what is wrong with this? We don't know if there was an agreement on the table between the current owner and a potential future owner for this thing being free, or if the ad being posted with free was a feeler by the current owner to see if it should be scrapped or if someone might want it.

There are a ton of unknowns when there is a public ad out in the wild. When something is listed as $FREE$ that is as rare as this washer, most serious collectors should pony up some cash to ensure the thing doesn't get scrapped.

And in the case of this Sherwood Green 1955 Frigidaire, it is probably just as rare as the '57 charcoal control tower that popped up several years ago. Thank God the seller of the control tower set had the right mind to post them on the estate sale site, even if there was no price listed.

If we want this to be fair - my suggestion would be that the seller post this on ebay. That way, everyone has "their fair" chance to offer up what they're willing or not willing to pay.

While I'm on my soapbox, I find collecting appliances to be somewhat hilarious. Car collectors pay thousands and thousands of dollars for a common or even rare car, just to make sure it is saved. TV and tube audio guys will go hog wild and throw around 4 to 5 digit offers for some of the rarest stuff, one to make sure it isn't thrown away, but also to make sure they are guaranteed they get the deal. But appliances? We balk at a seller asking $400 for their coppertone Maytag set, but when something as rare as this washer pops up, some find $500 to be over the top when I was thinking that if it seriously sells for $500 - then someone got a deal.

He Lurks Amongst Us

That would be the "seller's helper" who has been known to tip people off to what they have after it appears in a link here.  Apparently he has a firm grip on a grudge and isn't letting go.

Just my wild guess regarding this latest incident.  IIRC, the last time he interfered was when an Apex had been discovered, I think in New England somewhere, probably within the last year or so.

At that time, it was suggested that any fantastic finds be posted in the ATT forum to prevent lurking non-members from seeing them.

Being as all that may

One, the item was "free" in listing and that included words "just pick it up".

Two, apparently seller didn't really have a clue as to worth or value until after notice went up on this site and people began blowing up her inbox with offers far in excess of "$1". She may have known the thing was vintage and or a "museum piece", but that does not automatically translate into big money for anything. In fact museums routinely turn down things offered for their collections if price is far in excess of what they can or will pay. Hence reasons most things are donated and donor just takes the tax deduction.

Three, if it wasn't for the eagle eyes of those in group few would have known this was a "Sherwood" green or whatever Frigidaire washer.

.
I have learned the best way to get the free stuff is be there to pick it up ASAP. This may mean insisting you can only get it “now” or “tonight”...many a time being nice and letting the seller pick a time convenient for them has caused me to miss out...”oh the neighbor blah blah blah”, “someone else came right away”, etc.
“Time kills all deals” say the pros.

You aint said nothing but a word!

*LOL*

Should have hired a SUV or something and drove out to Detroit for that *free* AEG toplader. But instead waited too long and it was gone.

Yes, by all means when word *free* is attached to an appliance advert on CL or similar listings time is of the essence. If nothing else to beat out the scrappers constantly trolling for easy pickings.

Even when one comes upon a seller that doesn't want the appliance scrapped and offers to "hold", that may not be unlimited or indefinite.

The other thing is there are still a good number of persons who don't know about appliance "collectors" and or otherwise think someone from miles away reaching out for an "old" appliance is, well nuts. That is until others begin whispering sweet nothings into their ears that their said old or whatever appliance actually is worth something.

Fleapay is slowly dying

Facebook, CL, Offerup and other sites are stealing a good part of eBay's thunder.

People want cash in hand, rather than deal with having to give eBay a nice chunk of their takings. That and thanks to various policy changes over years fleaPay has become far more pro-buyer. People have received merchandise, filed various claims afterwards *and* gotten a refund from eBay. The latter in turn goes after seller even if or when they have done everything correctly.

Case in point an old appliance is sold "as is", but then buyer claims it is dented, doesn't work properly, is dirty or whatever....
