In the early '90s, KitchenAid sold a German-made, tall-tub stainless-interior dishwasher in addition to their regular models. The model was KUDN230Y0. Does anyone know who manufactured this machine?

It does look sort of like a Bosch machine, but I'm not sure.

Here's the link to the manual in PDF format. The control and interior images might help in identification.

That is a European Whirlpool dishwasher - can tell just by the racking. They still have somewhat similar racking here nowadays, exceopt they have tines in the bottom basket now rather than U shaped lips to hold plates.

Yep. Well, Whirlpool/Bauknecht - same thing, made in the same factory. I guess it was cheaper for Whirlpool to source a Euro dishwasher from their European division than to rebadge one from another manufacturer.

Which surprises me when they make plenty of Euro washers, but rebadge a rubbish POS Merloni compact washer and dryer!

I actually like the plates racked the way they were in this dishwasher. So reminiscent of REAL KitchenAids as well as Frigidaire Spin Tube dishwashers. I prefer the novelty of front to back vs. side to side. also fascinating, the upper spray arm presser adjustment feature. Thanks for posting the manual!!

a bit more to the story

Jon stated "I guess it was cheaper for Whirlpool to source a Euro dishwasher from their European division than to rebadge one from another manufacturer".

This dishwasher was part of a grouping of KitchenAid products called the "International Collection". There were unique imported models of wall ovens, cooktops & ventilation as well, all from Whirlpool Euro facilities. These appliances were mostly aimed toward the builder market and consumers who were looking for European features & styling. Similar to WCI's Euroflair offering in the mid-'80's.

Siemens never used yellow for the dispenser buttons but Bauk

Oh, just read the other entrys. Delete, delete, delete.
Yup - that is typical for Bauknecht.
It is quite true, while evil Whirlpool gutted the wonderful laundry products division immediately, they couldn't kill off the quality dishwashers right away. That was a market in which Bauknecht was not seen as the leader. So they had to do more than just pretend to build quality for a while.
That dishwasher should provide you with a few centuries of excellent service - but remember to clean those spray arms regularly and keep the micro filter clean. Never wash a glass with the paper cover still on. The paper will disintegrate and jam the mesh in that filter. I have found the best way to clean them is with denture cleaning tablets and a soft toothbrush.
Those machines are designed for very soft water - they use ion-exchangers over here. So be sure that you always use enough automatic detergent. It was also built for the enzyme based cleaners, not the ususal phospate/clorine stuff still in use in the 'States.
With the right cleaners and the 140° cycle you can forget pre-rinsing for ever. Even seriously burnt on stuff comes out clean.
Nice machine, good for you!
