I’ve known Vita-Mix blenders are supposed to be amazing for a long time, but either wasn't finding any or bothering to hunt for one. I decided more recently that I was really found wanting pf a more vintage one. A good friend out in MO managed to get one before I could find mine, but one came my way shortly thereafter! Found it in the Mormon thrift store in St George, Utah while on the trip to the VDTA show. It wasn't complete, but I found what I needed for not too much on eBay, including a rebuild kit for the leaking blade drive thing.

This thing is an absolute beast! And its quite fun to use, especially the reversing feature! That’s sure a sight and sound to behold… that thing whirring away at full speed and then slam that switch down all the way. I’ll only try that once without holding onto it, thing jumped sideways and nearly launched my smoothie to the moon out the top!

It sure does look like a toaster! And I think those handles on the sides ARE toaster handles. Makes that large container seem kinda small even. And that spout is just wild.

But it sure is powerful, and it seems like the 3600 or 4000 are the best of the old ones, but I still wouldn't mind getting a couple older ones, for fun.

And I'd be definitely having a time with that leak if I couldn't find parts, the rubber seal for the bottom of the container as well as the fiber washer seals for the shaft. I was also pleasantly surprised by how easily the old assembly came apart, I was fearing a fight...

Will definitely be trying out some of the more extreme things it can do, like cook soup from cold to completely hot.

I have a couple of these in my collection-came from yard sales. These are GREAT blenders! The forward-reverse feature is fun-and you do have to hold on while using itand if you have a white counter top you see the FLASH of the motor brushes when reversed. Also have a 4000 I bought new.Now its the newer VM blenders-sad--these don't have the reverse features.Would like to see VM bring it back.----BUT-----I can do the Forward-reverse as on the old VM machines with my Thermomix machine. On the screen while in blend mode-there is a blade icon on the screen-just touch that and the blade reverses.
