I am guessing at what this means...

I think it says "How do I get detergent and softener into the old front-load machines?"

How's that Peter? Perhaps you can re-pose the quesiton?
I really can't answer that quesiton except that I do recall
older Westinghouse front-loaders did not have dispensers.

Anyway. Would love to respond properly. Maybe just a clarification of the question is needed..

Peter:

I remember you posting that you are deaf.
Do you remeber that I posted an invitation to you to come to a wash-in here on Long Island?

I would even be able to pick you up from Englewood, NJ if needed. (Right off the Palisades Parkway, isn't it?)

I am guessing your "typing" is done by some sort of speech recognition software?

Anyway, please feel free to write to me at

[email protected] OR
[email protected]

and we can get to know each other and see if your are interested in a wash-in.

Of course my sign-language abilites, (besides extremely rude gestures!) are limited to about 4 words, so you'll clue me in as to communication procedures...

Be well and fondest regards,
Steve

I was wondering the same thing . . .

about the Westinghouse Laundromat. Although I haven't seen one in person, I don't recall seeing a dispenser anywhere on the machine.

If there is not dispenser, it's not difficult to get the detergent into the machine, as you can add it to the drum at the beginning of the wash, but what about bleach and softener? I can imagine that will be quite a challenge, unless there is a way to stop the machine mid-cycle to add it.

Also, how many rinses do the Laundromats have? Only one, or multiple rinses like the more modern front-loaders?

Anyway, Peter, Toggle's wash-in sounds fun! I have also been invited (hope it still stands), and plan to attend if I can ever get out of here and take a vacation. I saw the pictures from the last wash-in Toggle had, and it looked like fun!

Have a great day all!

Tex

of course the invitation still stands!

Based on my experiences to date, all here are amazing and weclome. I just don't recruit or beg.....LOL
Take the first step-- WRITE TO ME! LOL

Actually I think all F/L-ers rinse at least twice... some more than that.

Good rinsing takes plenty of water...

Depending on the design...

...such as the slant-front Westies, and depending on how the water level is adjusted, you could open the door and put additives in, since the water wasn't right at the door, and the tub was tilted back.

On the Bendix Automatic Home Laundries, however, it'd be a tough proposition, but then again, they gave you the ability to put in additives through the little hole on the top of the machine.
