Getting odors out of clothing

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I took care of my elderly Dad for years before he passed, bodily fluids, esp, urine, is very strong with older adults, and those who are sick. It IS a challenge to get that smell out. I used Borax and a long soak, about an hour. Switching to top shelf detergent helped a lot also. I line dried sheets, and bedding, and that aided as well, but I realize not everyone can do that. Eliminate Gain and get Persil or Tide if they can handle that with no allergies, or reaction. If someone else is doing the laundry in the household they might be setting the stains and odors in the fabrics, think it has to be laundered on a consistent basis the same way. Hopefully no one is using cold water.

Barry,

I watch way too much late night TV, that Pooph! commercial comes on at least a dozen times in an hour, I figured my television was trying to give me a hint... haha.

I would definitely use it as a last ditch effort, expensive obviously... and when I used it I washed only a flannel shirt, T shirt and jeans, soaked it in the stuff for a couple hours and air dried after. I still thought I smelled it as it came out of the washer, but the next day when clothes were fully dry it really was gone.

My sister is a home health nurse for elderly people who need 24 hour care.  I remember her saying years ago that she uses liquid disinfectant/antibacterial multi purpose cleaner, mostly Pine Sol, to wash clothes and bedding for patients with UTI isuues. Because that's caused by bacteria the odor lingers after regular washing I guess, the cleaner eliminates the odor better than regular soap, basically killing it in the fabric. Body odor comes from sweat and bacteria as well.

She said she read on the bottle it was safe to use and that's how she got the idea,  and in writing this I googled and found that the Pine Sol website actually recommends it as safe for laundry use

In writing about the Pooph! experience this slipped my mind til just now. Poofed right out of my head I guess :)

Similar to Jamiel, but you might already have it in the house.
