Hey guys wonder if you can help me. I need to get a better fridge as my dd.
What are some good used brands or models?
Im looking on craigslist and trying to stay under 250.
Im just looking for something well built that will last a few years till i can afford a new one.

Best Used Refrigerators

WP built top freezer models built after 1995, this list would also include all KA, Roper and Estate and KM models if the Model# on the model# and serial tag begins 106. for KM refs, this tag is on the upper left wall inside the fresh food section, this tag also has a date of manufacture so you can tell hold old it really is Ex 01-02.

These WP built top freezer refs have been virtually trouble free and most will easily last around 30 years with decent care. In fact I would go so far as to say that these refs are the MOST RELIABLE frost free refrigerators EVER built. Just get one with the fewest extra gadgets, IM add some problems and some of the fancier models even had a water dispenser in the ref section and a built-in water filter, these add ons can cause extra problems on any refrigerator.

However Whirlpool top freezer fridges are no longer made here in the USA, they are made in Mexico. We bought a Top freezer model from Whirlpool a couple of years ago and the quality of the unit was horrible. The back was bulging and the liner was too large so the full with deli drawer when loaded would fall onto the shelf below. Whirlpool knew of the problem after the fact since they admittted that there were "manufacturing issues" at the plant in Mexico. We went around and around with Whirlpool and they kept sending techs out to confirm what the last tech said. I called the state and they said to go back to where we bought the beast and have then either exchange it or get our money back and the state would back us up. So we went to Lowes and they had us pick out a new fridge wheich we did, we got another American made Whirlpool bottom freezer fridge, Whirlpool Gold and have been quite happy with it so far.
Here is a pic of it.

WP has been making all of their 16 CF and smaller TF Refs in Mexico for over ten years and we have seen no problems with these refs, they have recently started making larger models in Mexico, but if there have been problems with these it should not affect the poster as they are looking a a good USED refrigerator.

Mike I am glad you like your new WP-Amana American built bottom freezer ref, these refs have gotten MUCH better since the time MT owned this plant and we are now selling and recommending these refs again, HOWEVER if someone is looking for a good USED ref I would stay away from ALL BOTTOM freezer refs built over the last 20+ years.

We had the Whirlpool SxS from hell. It only lasted 10 years. Every year or so it would fail. I think we paid for it twice once to buy it and another in repair bills. The through the door water/ice dispenser rusted through the freezer door. After the second to the last repair I told it "the next time you go out, you are gone". Well a few weeks later on New Years Day we woke up to water on the floor and the freezer had defrosted everything. The refrigerator was 80F. Since we did a large grocery shopping trip the week before we probably lost about $150.00 worth of food. So we actually lived out of a large ice chest for three months until we bought the refrigerator we really wanted. This GE has the LED lighting it turns on "softly" and fades to black when the door is closed. So easy on the eyes.

In our last house we had a 1969 GE SxS. The only problem it ever had was the water solenoid for the ice maker stuck open and flooded the kitchen, den & dining room. I fixed it myself and nothing else ever happened in the 12 years we lived there.

So now we have a GE SxS again and have had it for two years and no problems yet.

Thank you Combo52

its not one of the most economic fridges about but its one of the most reliable I have ever had its on par to a commercial one it never misses a beat. Compared to most UK fridges its noisy as most of ours do not have fans in this one has two so thats where it loses its economy I am assuming this of course!
