Dadoes,

Yes, seriously. If it is 100 outside, your A/C will run of it is set at 90.
It is never 100 here, aside form the added humidity heat index, but when it is 90, it runs when set at 80 quite a bit. Like when it was 95 Friday.
Indoor humidity was down to less than 60 percent. That's the uncomfortable killer here, humidity. Basements stay cool, and those without central A/C use dehumidifiers. My folks never had A/C, but by the time they got home at night, the house had cooled down. They were big day trippers, and travelers. My sister put in central A/C when she moved into the house.
She was here on Fathers day, and said my house was warm. I had the a/c on 76, so I brought up my box fan from the basement for her. It was 89 degrees. I cooked out doors.

Yes, I know the system will run.  There's plenty humidity on the TX coast, along with the heat.  You're saying I shouldn't expect my A/C to cool my house lower than 92°F to 95°F when the outdoor temp is 102°F to 105°F? Maximum 10°F lower than whatever is the outdoor temp?  Just, no.

Tstat at 76

I get cold at 76-77 setting!  I don't have much body fat to insulate me.  I have to dress in layers when I go to work because the hospital is so cold sometimes.  In winter I keep it on 74 and wear sweatshirts all the time.

Been 99+ the last week.  I have humidity set point on t-stat to be 40%.  the system is able to keep it about 47-49%.  With that being said, the t-stat temp set point is 2 degrees higher than what the system is maintaining temp wise.  I've gotten used to this as psychologically I'm keeping it at 78 and inside temp is 76.  Yesterday the system ran much of th4e day and several times at high-speed mode much of the time.

90.9 at 1:40PM

Goodman is chugging away. Skies are slightly cloudy, hazy humidity is 42 per cent and rising as I type this.

Thank goodness for Goodman.........:)

HI FRIG!

Outdoor temp sensor is 105°F but it's exposed to sunlight until ~15 mins ago.  Official reported is 97°F, feels like 108°F.  Indoor temp 77.7°F.  Unit has been cycling all morn, currently off ... so yeah, more than 10°F below the ambient.

We have an American Standard central unit. We keep it set at 77F. It was 100F yesterday with very high humidity. The unit ran a total of 10:13 min in that 24 hour time period with no constant run mode.

A batch of storms cooled things drastically

down to 73 now, still humid, poured like a banshee for about 25 minutes or so. I suppose the saving grace is it remained cloudy so the soil could soak up the precipitation. The Goodman is cycling less now as a result of the temp drop. I think the humidity is in the 80 per cent range.

Forecast calls for a 50 per cent chance of storms tomorrow. We need it, desperately

When I walked the yard before the storm, I saw deep cracks and fissures in the topsoil. That's how dry it is here.

My mere 500 watt 5,000 btu window unit, with improved electronic controls, has been on all day.  We had a heat warning last week from Wednesday to Friday, with heat indexes of 90-105.   It's been humid.

I usually turn off at night.  One night though, I left it on to cycle on and off as it didn't get below 75.

Been comfy as can be at only 500 watts.

My Lennox at home is chugging away-and the Carrier 150 ton chillers are chugging away at work. Each one has two compressors-both compressors going!Hoping my old Lennox will get thru the heat!!

Hit 90 here today lots of humidity

Had a boomer roll through, temps dropped, as expected. Then it cleared out and the temp and humidity soared big time.

The Goodman is carrying the freight and keeping things comfortable. I just turned down the Aprilaire t-stat to 75 before I retire for the evening. This way I get into a somewhat cool bed and sleep comes quicker.

I love scroll compressors.

@artcurus

Thank you for the suggestions, and if or when the large Honeywell fan dies may look into a vintage unit. However getting shot of a perfectly operational newish fan and buying a vintage replacement might just be the straw that breaks a camel's back around here; vis-à-vis my new address may be an asylum somewhere as surely will be committed. *LOL*

This is ours and it works a great. Have never needed to go above "low" setting and am here to tell you the thing moves air like a jet.

Picked it up several years ago at a Goodwill for next to no money and has been one of our best purchases yet. About once a year or so take it apart to dust the fan blades and inside grille. Use a fan "filer" to keep it covered/clean and from blowing dust around.

During summer months with the AC on use it to keep air circulating which allows us to use the "Energy Saver" option on the Friedrich Wall Master (cycles fan on and off with the condensers). When the AC isn't on this thing can cool down a room in no time flat. Give it cross ventilation and things are even better.

"System are generally designed to for a 20 degree difference between outdoor and indoor ambient."

This is why there is a limit to outdoor temperature one can run any sort of air conditioner. IIRC Friedrich says not to run any of their AC units when outdoor temps are below mid 60's F.

Can tell whenever the outdoor temp has dropped say over night and the AC is on because the place is freezing. This is also why if you go to a supermarket or a commercial/large space that has switched their central heating system over to AC early in the season when you get those odd cool days or nights. The entire space often feels like the frozen foods section.
