Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Thanks Scott, $37.50 in 1948 dollars calculates to $314 in 2005 dollars when the mixer was first introduced. Sort of like buying a modern higher end KitchenAid mixer today.

Maybe a saucier side??

Perhaps the mixer came as a wedding gift, but from a despised relative so it was "consipicuously missing" from her counter each time family was over... 'As if I'd ever use a mixer that came from that bi*ch!'

Or maybe, she got this as an "I'm sorry gift" from her husband that cheated on her while out of town at a convention... Maybe it's a good thing she put it away unopened rather than spitting on it every time she walked by ;-)

No matter the story, a very cool find!

Hmmmmmm, I bet you're right Greg. Maybe the Hamilton Beach was a present from her best friend Betty, and she was about to open it when Betty had the nerve point out those spots on her best glasses and suggest Cascade in front of all the girls at her bridge luncheon. The mixer promptly went into the storage room in the basement and neither the mixer nor Betty was ever spoken to again.

Hmmmph.

LOL You GUYS

Some folks just arent stand mixer people. I once bought my mom one, a chrome sunbeam, she gave it back. I still have it. She just prefers a simple handmixer, and she has killed a many of em. :-)

Very nice

And very LUCKY! Stinker!

Maybe Betty married Jane's ex-husband and Jane gave it to them for a wedding present! Have to be friendly for the kids sake you know! " I'll let that thing sit in the attic and rot before I EVER use it!"

NO..that's not what happened

Shortly after their marriage Jane came home from bridge and found her new husban Bob with Bettys husband Bill in a compromising situation for the era. Bob was thrown out as was Bill,,both moved to Provincetown and opened a Tea Shop together. Jane could never look at that mixer again.

Mixers

Like many other kitchen appliances (irons, blenders, you name it) are items women likely received duplicates of as wedding presents. As the years went on more would come in the form of anniversary/birthday/whatever gifts and join others stored away for future use.

With appliances built to last the duration back then, a housewife probably never got past her first and the rest never saw the light of day. It takes estate sales/moving/garage sales to flush all these goodies out. With the advent of Ebay you find more and more people willing to have estate sales or find other methods to move on these goods as they figure there is "gold in dat dar attic".

Great mixer, though! Way to go.

Granny's mixer

"After my grandmother died in 1964, my mom took it home and it was the only mixer my mom had for many, many years"

So what mixer did your Mom use before she got your Granny's mixer back in 1964?

Notice

How "many" pictures are on the "2nd" show link for the sunbeam Mixer/Blender. Does anyone see what I saw? It is just a little funny and ironic for me. Clue - "previous - next"

Wow, 1955? Didn't think the Model G was made that late; that's not a bad production run for one model, IMHO, especially for back then! When was this model first produced?
