Great Find!

I had a set just like that one, but mine was in harvest gold, and the portable dryer green. I used them when I was living in an apartment that had only one washer and one dryer for 30 some tenants. I bought the set for $75.00 from a friend used them for about two years then the pump went out on the washer. Sold the dryer for $50.00.

My Aunt Eva had one just like that in coppertone that she used for years in her old NYC apartment. Always loved that little spin dryer with the rubber tamper. Hoover made some great and classy stuff before it was assimilated into the Borg. There was a company, like Maytag, whose emblem you could trust. I still use a vintage Hoover Decade upright as my daily driver.

I had the chance to try the little bugger out yesterday. Everything seems to be in decent shape, only a few issues.

Noticed there are still cardboard washers on the screws for the rear panel!

problem #1.

the pump belt seems to be shot. look at the amount of deflection i am getting. the machine won't pump out water. I am guessing there is not enough tension in the pump belt. anyone have a source?

The fill faucet is busted. any ideas?

Anyone have a source?? I too have a Hoover twin tub that needs a new belt... my spin tub is alll out of whack becuase of this

looks like there are 2 belts for the pump - a blue and a yellow. anyone out there have any experience with these machines?

Ohhh Yessss!!!

Hello Eric, welcome to the "Hoover SplashMatic" club..I `m sure you will have loads of fun using these machines, parts are getting scarce even over here but belts n hoses are good to go, even pumps,(which are pattern, but i`ve never had a problem) which seemed to have a high failure rate with yourselves, due to hard water perhaps?? email me your address and I`ll send what you need!!!

I`ve used a few different US machine at the last couple of wash/vac conventions, the one thing we didnt have was COLOUR!!! and Hoover certainly wernt afraid of that!!

I didn't realize that Mike your machines have an SS wash tub and the US machines have plastic. Do all US machines have plastic wash tubs?

Tubs!!!

Morning Jon, the early UK and US machines had the dull metal aluminium tubs, then in the seventies the US switched to the polyplastic tubs which of course gave lots on very interesting "Colour Combinations" of which the UK never had, I just love those Coppertones, Harvest Golds & Advocados!!!

The other reason we didnt have the plastic tubs was because of the 3kw Heaters that the UK models had...famous for the "Hoover Boiling Water Action" , nothing like a heater switched on to send that swirl of steamy mist up into the laundry room...great fascials as well!!!

What I love about them is all that "Splashdrama" the speed that spinner pump shoots the water out is FAB, even in a deep laundry sink it sprays everywhere!!!

Hi Steve, how ya doing with your twinny??? (make sure you leave that sticker on!!!) the heater is at the bottom of the washtub in the long holy well as I call it!!! Heres the grill, I`ll take a pic later with the cover off, usually rated at 3kw bring that water to a steam really quickly...

Mikey, Mikey , Mikey--Little wonder Hoover gets such "Splashdrama." That vacuum motor spins at 2000 something rpm's, yes? YOu've seen the blender blade impeller, of course; at least that's what's in mine--have had it all apart. Keep thinking that if the Hoove's and Uni's had huge angel wing impellers like the Easy's and other, the water would be drained in seconds, and the machines would surely lift off.

How nice to see you again. Wish we could do Canton all over again. You have the most beautiful, desirable Hoovers I've ever seen. I'd trade all the colored plastic in the States for a stainless steel in the UK.

One question for you guys. I noticed on one of these machines it says to press clothes down firmly into the spin drum and then place the retainer over them. Where's this retainer? Perhaps a video???

I call it the floppy disk, and I NEVER use it, and so far nothing has "jumped tubs." If there are socks or wash cloths in the load, just stuff 'em under heavier items. BUT, I'm asking Chestermike if they are needed for better rinsing, to conduct the currents, etc.

If they are irrelevant for rinsing, my floppy disk is yours, or anyone else's who wants it. I'll take a pic for the next roll. The disc looks like the skeleton of a flying saucer.

Regarding the Amber' kid: Funny you should notice. Greg said the same thing in Canton. The truth: would never pay 50 bucks for a T-shirt, but I found it on the beach, for which I actually have a policy. When I find something of value down there, I leave just where it is for a few days, then ask the few regulars if they know who left it, then re-cycle it to me. Have a good half dozen cool things of value found on the beach.
