I think in the UK they'd call this a tip LOL
My eventual showroom..you can see the wire shelves on floor over by the far wall,, just gotta get those babies up. Not all the plastered over holes from the previous owners...

That avocado model 12!

Pete, I couldn't help but notice you have a Sunbeam Model 12
in avocado. I have seen one once up on eBay and I thought it had been repainted. Did Sunbeam actually do a run on the 12's in '65 when avocado was introduced? Oh and if you ever need bowls, email me. I have hundreds!!

It's original avocado. I don't know what color the original bowls were because when I got it at a thrift store it came with the white glasbake, not avocado. Do you have avocado bowls? I have plenty of the clear and white glasbakes, I just didn't put them on the mixers because I was afraid the shelf was getting too heavy LOL I guess I need a turquoise and a pink one next...I'm not actively looking for those because as I've said before I don't want to start collecting mixers but they just follow me home

A Word to the Wise...

Don't trust the plastic clips that come with those wire shelves Pete...my new home came with those installed in the closets and after a short time the clips get brittle and snap.

Hope this saves you from a mess like I had...

Bill

Yikes, the other half is at this moment putting some up in the closet. Those do have side mounts and an angle bracket but I think I'll just put light stuff on them and go with the proper shelving brackets for the other wall now you mention it.. Thanks

There you go...now you're aware of what can happen you won't load it down like I did....unfortunately I had a box of antique picture frames on mine...lol Oops...

Space...the last frontier

I want that room in my basement! It's perfect for your small appliance collection - a workbench with storage is a huge bonus!

I would like to find some of the chrome wire shelves for my vacs that would allow the uprights on the top shelf and a couple of spaces below for canisters, attachments, etc. but so far have found only larger units. I may have to get out the hacksaw...

Shelving woes

Bill's comment about those plastic clips is all too true! My very first collection was almost entirely wiped out when the clips snapped... I started using standard bookcases for displays and that has been fine so far.
Oh, about the bowls, they never did make avocado ones as far as I know. I guess the white bowls would have been included when they were new, but a stainless set would look really cool with this mixer!
When I get settled in the new house (literally hundreds of boxes of mixers, parts, toasters and the like to move), if you are interested in a pink Model 12 (it only has the small pink bowl, though) let me know... Foul temptress? Moi??

Were both of yours shelving with the bad clips made by Rubbermaid? That's what these shelves are. I checked the Rubbermaid website and it seems they don't offer them anymore.
I got the ones in the closet and the small alcove beside it put up last night. You'll notice in the second picture down that they are supported along the front edge by a hangar screwed to the adjacent walls which I'm hoping will give them enough support along with the angle bracket underneath. I have more of them much longer for the long wall but those won't reach the side walls in order to have that additional wall bracket on the ends so I probably won't use them.
Anyays here's a couple of pics with some junk on them

plastic clips for wire shelves

Please don't tell me that these give out. I just set up my room this summer with these shelves. The shelves with the most weight i would omagine are the ones with the vacuums on them.

I like the ones Pete has. I don't have the wall structures to use these. The free standing shelves work best for me.

Pete,
I'm really not sure what brand mine are. They do look exactly like the ones that you have in the photo. Mine are 6 ft. long though yours don't look like they are that long. I was just plain stupid and overloaded mine. You know 10 pounds of shi* in the 5 pound bag.
Marty, I really don't know about the free standing units I have never used them...they look like they are stronger than the wall mounts.

Those metal racks should hold up Marty. I have one in the kitchen loaded with stuff and it's been fine. I'd get them for downstairs but they weren't cheap when I bought mine, something like $90 for the tall one.

Pete

I paid 75.00 for the tall ones at Lowe's. I bought three. I then bought three ( i think ) individual shelves that fit between the tall ones. They all fit together in one piece. The shorter ones i bought at Target for 12.99 up to 59.99 depending on the size of the shelf unit. The tall shelf unit in the back with the hair dryer on it was considerably less than the ones at Lowe's.

BTW, I'm glad you found my card in that box.

:) Marty
