Short version for anyone not following along on my other thread regarding this issue: Old Frigidaire dishwasher began having issues a few weeks ago, cycle would run with the door open, hard water buildup had gotten terrible as well as my detergent pods weren't dissolving properly. So, apartment management elected to buy me a new unit, which took a while including them bringing a unit that was too tall at first (I have an ADA compliant kitchen, so countertops are shorter than average).
Well, they brought the correctly sized unit yesterday. I suppose they couldn't find the updated Frigidaire or maybe it wouldn't be here fast enough. At any rate, new DW is a GE, model number in subject above.
Here are my first-day observations:
It's quieter than the old Frigidaire, but not whisper quiet like, say, a Bosch or higher-end Ka or WP machine might be. Certainly it can run without disturbing us much at all, which is great.
Cleaning power is good. I had a baking dish with a lot of crust on it from making a ravioli lasagna, and it came out spotless.
The only cycle I've used so far is the heavy cycle, which is loooong. I wonder if auto sense would be better for most loads, someone could maybe elaborate on that further for me.
Didn't think I would like the top controls, but I do. I tend to lean on the DW when cooking and occasionally press buttons with my hip. So, no more of that happening, which is a plus.
Only thing I don't care for on this machine is the rack configuration. I can't for the life of me figure out a good orientation for bowls. There just doesn't seem to be a good place on either rack for average size cereal or soup bowls. I enjoyed the racks on my Frigidaire more. Perhaps one of you could give me some tips on loading this thing better.
Over all, I'm pleased. It's certainly nice to have a working DW again. I didn't mind hand-washing dishes while I had to, but I can't say I was ever converted. If a dishwasher is here, I'm going to use it for most things. I just don't have time to fuss about with hand-washing, but to each his own and if people prefer it, I certainly have nothing to say about that.
Anyway, I'll try to get some photos of the machine up here later, but in the meantime, feel free to chime in on guidance for loading, maybe which of the three cycles (heavy, auto sense, and light) would be best for everyday use. Also, will temp boost and sanitize work with my water heater only being set at 120? That is the de facto setting for this whole complex, so doubt I could persuade them to raise it for safety reasons.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend!
