As others have said, Garmin is the way to go. I love mine. If you were getting it for yourself, I'd advise to get the more expensive one with free map updates.

And it's easy to know if an unit has free map updates or traffic information. Look for the letters LM for Lifetime Maps and T for Traffic. This is not written on the GPS itself but you can see it on the boxes and in the advertisements. For example, on mine, it's written 3760 on the GPS itself but the box shows 3760LMT. That gets you unlimited free map updates (4 per year) and FM traffic info.
