Tumbling seems very anaemic to me! Or is this just a load sensing part of the cycle?

yes , this is the load sensing part of the wash cycle (it takes 2-3 min).

All hotpoint indesits annd Aristons does the same load sensing tumbles at the beginning of washes rinses etc.
