The story goes like this
Mr. Andrews came over with the washer in the back of an old Izuzu pickup, rusted, dented, and leaked oil. I thought great, this guy is a junk dealer. He had it strapped to an appliance hand truck, and upon peering into the back I saw some ramps that he used to load/unload the machine. I preceeded to help him and he said "Oh no let me get it, I can do this by myself no problem". I was a little in awe. Ok, I said. (First of all, this man doesn't even know me, and we have never met, but he is all excited about this washer's new home)
We got the washer out of the truck and he rolled it where it sits in my garage. Within minutes of him being here he became attached to the 1947 Unimatic and the control tower dryer.
He indicated I am no new kid on the block when it comes to these machines. He said "Boy, you don't know this, but I started working for Gulf Power in 1947. My heart started to race. Gulf Power until later 1979 was the Frigidaire Dealer here in Pensacola. His entire carreer was spent doing washer/dryer repair for Frigidaire. He retired in 1980. In all the conversation we had, he is still very interested in machines. Like I indicated earlier, he was here for two hours.
I introduced him to AW.org. He was in his glory. We looked at "See it Wash". The fourum etc.
He told me that anything that I need to know about Frigidaire, he knew the answer.
I am invited to collect all of his tool's from his stach and several parts items that he still has. Even an oil and water bellows for my Unimatic. He indicated that he does have some machines but unsure of which ones are left. He thought a lot of the parts would be all dry rotten however. I will be going over, real soon, due to the unveiling that we are neighbors. See how close these things can be, and we don't even know.
It all came about by my presistance and insistance at Gray's Maytag.
The moral of the story. Make phone calls, meet people in public, talk with folks, express your interest, market yourself, and BINGO! The computer alone won't find anyone appliances and bring them to you. I have only been with AW.org for a little over a year, and THANKS to some for all the advice and information shared about collecting machines. My collection is getting real big now.
BTW- The Maytag A200 be it what it is (and yes it works perfectly) and all what is to come was and is absoutly free of charge. Mr. Andrews would not and will not take a penny from me! I am still in shock.
