Great Maytag Set on Ebay

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

The lint filter on early Maytag dryers

lives in the back of the drum, behind that round plastic thing with the finger holes.

I always thought it looked a little bit like a round waffle.

It was a bother to bend and stretch to get at the filter, and sometimes I let it go two loads (I know, I know! Fire hazard!) before cleaning it.

It wasn't difficult to detach, just an annoyance.

Maytag went to a lint filter slide in the door opening around 1980.

If I had space, I would give this magnificent pair the home and love they deserve!!!

Seriously Tempted.....

Just like the pinky we brought home the other day, except pinky (I guess I'll start calling it that) needs a dial and a new backsplash light switch, and who knows what else. More an artpiece / former home for mice.

But this set is only a few hours away. Stay back people! ; )

Good luck Fred, I hope that you get them. They would go perfectly with your 806s set.

Model:

A700s is a suds saver - you can see the two added switches to the left of the timer dial with speed buttons. These are exactly like the turquoise machines (non-suds) I just got from Maryland. Has anyone asked the seller exactly what the non-working dryer's symptoms are?

Dryer filter...

I had this same dryer a number of years ago and although the filter was located in a difficult to reach place, I could get a several loads of wash through the dryer before it needed to be cleaned. I think the user's manual said that the filter should be cleaned after your washday was done unless drying heavy lint producing items(shag rugs, etc.) I'll have to dig out those books again. This model's filter screen was just that; a rather coarse metal screen/mesh that seemed to allow a lot of the lint to pass through it and out the vent. For a long time, I just took the filter screen out and let all the lint run outside. Curiously, even after a couple of years running that way, there was little to no lint in the vent tubing. Maytag had this same design for filtering until the change to the "Big Load" design in 1975 when the filter was moved up front.

I have a very similar set Model 142S (suds saver) with lighted glass panel and light in the tub that Im going to be selling. If anyone is interested before I put them on ebay let me know. The dryer that I have is gas btw.......

The filter on this design may have been inconvenient but the rest of the machine makes up for it. If everything is in good working order the machine is near silent. Although as a service tech it was never fun to restring the "halo" element.

Oh, Jimmy-- If I only had ROOM!

but this is not an endlessly expandable apartment!

(No, I am NOT going to trade or sell my 97s!)

If I had room, that Maytag pair would have a new home just a few miles north!

Maytagbear, you can come down and play with my set here anytime. I just got a 1956 Maytag AMP set w/gas dryer to replace the 1960 142S set. Oh, if only we could keep everything that we find! Alas, its impossible.

Those 1962's are mine!

I wish to bid, that would be fun restoring! We have just built an entire vintage applicance only 32 x 40 room, concrete floor, so the one's who tore the house apart before wont have a chance to now!
