Like to see closeups of the TT and the tuner-amp.A shot of the equipment from the back with the back panel off would be good,too.

Grundig and other German consoles
typically featured multiple band tuners, including SW, high-gloss or teak wood veneer cabinets, and used fairly low power output stages, open frame transformers, and, as seen here, oval speakers (as often seen in auto applications, but with somewhat better freq. range than those). Nice for low level listening, but no real competition for the better US consoles such as Fisher or TOL Maggies &c.

I used to own a Grundig console-yes they did have low powered amps and open frame transformers.Becuase a transformer is open frame doesn't automatically make it bad.As I remember on the early safety codes for electronic appliances-if the chassis was enclosed in a cabinet the transformers didn't have to be enclosed in a metal case or end bells.Now if the transformer was on an open chassis not in a cabinet-then the transformers had to be enclosed to prevent shock hazards and fire hazards.The quality of the transformer depends on the care of how its was wound and the quality of the iron used in the core,copper used in the windings, and how it was assembled.Yes,US Hi-fi consoles could put out more power and had better bass response.A freind of mine who came from Germany had a Grundig Hi-Fi console that was built to diffrent standards.this one had a powered subwoofer in the center,and it could put out bass like US ones.It had the tubed amps.The other problem with Grundig,Telefunken sets is the tubes-some are not made here-so you have to go a place that carried them.When I used to live in Wash DC about 35Yrs ago-there was a place called "German Hi-Fi" that was a Grundig dealer and carried the tubes that fit in Grundig adn Telefunken units.They also carried 240V small appliances for folks going overseas.Also step up transformers adn sockets so you could run 240V Euro and UK appliances here.The transfoermers would be handy for my vacuum collection-if I was to get any 240V vacuums-could run them.Trying to run them from a stove or dryer outlet is just not convenient.The German Hi-Fi place also carried Telefunken products-esp the much revered Telefunken tubes.Used those in my McIntosh amps at the time-still have them.Just not used right now-thinking of reviving the amps and using them again.
