GyroJon's Morning Bendix Fix

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

So much of what's hot today....

in the way of features are on these Bendix machines. A 7 gallon wash? These machines could have been Energy Star way back when.
It seems the U.S. washer manufacturers tried the FL system back in the 50's, I wonder why it didn't take off then as it has now?
The 525 RPM spin does seem slow for a FL machine, but I think you could just change the photos and put in the photo of one of today's FL machines and still have it right. Simply amazing.

A classic case of what was once old becomes new again!

The 525 RPM spin does seem slow for a FL machine

Until the mid or late 1990's front loaders were the slowest spinning automatic washers of any washer made in North America. For front loaders Bendix was the fastest at 525rpm, Westinghouse was 475rpm, early Bendix bolt-down machines were 250rpm. Other coin-op front loading brands such as Norge and Speed Queen also spun below 500 rpm.

YAY!! Thanks for posting! BEAUTIFUL machines...I'm sure GyroJon is now in the lookout for a pink machine...although I'm on the lookout for ANY model! No bolting down necessary (I could use it anywhere), and 525 RPM removes more water than 311! :)

From my knowledge, until the Frigidaire Gallery models (and their clones by GE, Kenmore, etc...) came out, the "First Generation FL's" (what I like to call the Westinghouse design) spun relatively slow compared to top-loaders. In the Wards catalog, the last of the Potato-Pulley Westinghouses spun at 525. My Dual-Tumble is probably the same even though the mechanics are different...water extraction isn't too bad, really. About the same as my TL machines (with the exception of the WO-65-2)

Thanks Greg for posting these, what a nice way for us to start our day!! Yay for Bendix, they really were way ahead of their time. Terry

Greg,
Thanks for posting these Bendix Morning Starters!
I just love these machines!
So ahead of it's time, because just like Jon say's, everyone is using this suspension now. Thank goodness Bendix let the patents expire, or we would still have 200 rpm spins in our front loaders.

Steve patents cannot be renewed, 17 years and that's it, actually recently its been changed to 20 years from the filing date. On the other end of the spectrum are copyrights which have gone completely out of control.
