had one of these back in 92 but at that time I didn't have a clue what I was doing I got rid of it after about a month but then I discovered this cool site and all the fun I found out I could have... so since I never got to play with it back then I have always thought about getting another, and since they are never close to home I just forgot about it, but then I saw this on craigslist a few weeks ago but the guy was almost 2 hours away and im renting a truck for an all day drive thing ect so I shot him some mail and talked him down a bit and even got him to bring it up to st louis

so this one from what I can remember is in better shape than the one I had needs a good cleaning and have to figure out why the levers for the pump are stuck but after a new cord it fires up and works will be a good fall project

Good find and it sounds like you made a good deal, too.  All that was missing was the home demo.

 

The service manual for these is in the library (link) that should help quite a bit.  I suspect the diverter valve for the pump is frozen, you should hopefully be able to free it up pretty quickly.

FOR THE MOST PART I REMEMBER WHAT TO DO (WATCHED A VID OR TWO ON YOUTUBE) IL HAVE TO TINKER WITH THE PUMP WANT TO TRY AND AVOID TAKING IT OUT BUT WHO KNOWS. THANKS FOR THE INFO YOUR A DOLL
 
well got a new cord on it and she runs just need to tinker with the pump. she need a good body scrub and a touch of primer here and there then some new white paint. so come on down and we will do some laundry yee haaa

Great find on this Easy. I did laundry today in mine and hung everything outside.
Try this: But some hot water into the drain on the washer side and see what happens?
There is a bracket with a thumbscrew type of fastener that holds the bottom plate over the pump. You could try to open this but be really careful not to mess up the gasket there. The cables may need some attention too. Use some WD 40 on the cables and free them so that they move easily. You may want to put some lube on them so that they will move easily.
The plastic knobs on the controls are somewhat fragile so be careful when moving them; I grasp mine on the big side where they are attached to the machine. Let us know how things are going, you will love this machine and the clean clothes that you get out of it. Gary
 
The cables ALWAYS need attention. Why you seldom see a 'console' Easy with all its plastics. The cables gum up then the plastics break from being forced. Bear in mind that the WD in WD40 stands for water displacement. It's not a good longterm lubricant but a fair solvent that may help degumming, though actual 'penetrating oil' would be better and might not reek as much.

Machine is near top-line. Has the needle-spray spin hub. Missing the filterflo tray and the second/low speed (from what I can see). Spindrys were like Chevrolets, multiple trim levels. That's an Impala but not a SS. Well kept. The porcelain held up pretty well but the filler panels rusted with little provocation. I'd pour boiling vinegar in the tubs to breakup lime scud. Half gallon in each should do for starters.
 
well its all apart well sort of the stuff that I can get off I got off scrubbed down will work on primer this week. and have to hunt for new wheels seems one cracked in half oopps that's not good
 
well she is all back together new wheels and cord and paint ( I added some color) got the pump unstuck yeah and did a water test today that was good gees I cant get over all the crap that came out of the pump .. nasty

HI, good for you. I am glad that the pump is working. Have you done laundry in your machine yet? There is a water line in the inside of the tub, close to the top for max. loads. Nice paint job too. Good luck. Gary
 
Chris, It is a good idea to put a small amount of Vaseline on the Spiralator drive, at the top of the post, the part that turns when the machine is running. It will help you to take the Spiralator out after washing to clean under there after you have finished washing, which is a good idea. Wipe out the tub and Sprialtor post after you have finished washing and have rinsed both tubs with copious amounts of water. Let me know how you are doing with this? Gary
 
wow knock on wood everything works fine and no leaks... wow what a workhorse! did a whole weeks laundry this morning what a cleaner that machine is im impressed

The twin tub washer was and still is the best machine you can have !!! It's economical speedy and gives you great control over all your wash !!! Your restoration is fantastic really well done and hope you enjoy . Regards Darren
 
That restoration looks fantastic, Chris. Some good friends bought her parents old farmhouse and there was same exact working model in the basement in great shape. I told them I would love to have it and it was moved into their attached barn for an easier loading into my truck. She accidentally smashed into the wash tub and ruined the porcelain with her big SUV, so I said no thanks. Scrappers ended up with it unfortunately.

You always do such a fine job of bringing machines back from the edge! I love the colors.

Also its a good idea to vaseline the hub under the spin cage and to remove it once a month so it doesn't freeze on the hub.

Gary Weibel taught me all about that with mine and on my machine we had 3-4 guys all pulling to get the tub out the first time.

she is runnin fine am off tomorrow want to run it again. its kinda fun I roll it up to the kitchen sink and have at it.. have to laugh 2 weeks ago I got some newkind of tide powder and the box says one scoop = 6 and they were tellin the truth omg. I mean it was so strong I had to drain the wash water down to about 2-3 inches and refill the tub then it was just right wow
 
CONGRATS CHRIS.......

I just got the same one, last year. It came from MN, and was delivered straight into my storage unit in Jersey.
I just got my house last year, and just 3 weeks ago, finally got all the "larger" items, mostly appliances to the house now.
This is a fun project that will have to wait, until I get done with the more important house projects, though I'd rather tinker with the Spindrier.

I was also given a lower level Model, no faucet arms. Not sure if this will get restored, sold, or saved for parts.

I think it's cool, that there seems to be an increased interest in these machines. It's a Great segue from the Wringer to the Automatic machine.

they were good machines you can do a whole weeks worth of laundry in the same wash water and by the end im amazed how dirty the wash water is then spin em out and either spray rinse them or refill the tub and rinse them you have total control over wash and spin time, but I can tell on my work cloths it really cleans
 
Chris, I agree fully, I am amazed at how dirty the wash water is after just a few loads. I don't have really dirty clothes, or so I thought until 4 loads later in the Easy.
I am not so sure that the rinse feature of these machines is a good way to rinse? I drain and fill up the washer too and rinse that way after using the spin-rinse feature.
I use Sears detergent and some Borax. Happy washing. Gary
