$15 plus 5 tip. Nice 2 chair traditional barber shop recently opened near us. Owner is gay and very involved with community. I despise getting my hair cut and going to him is tolerable. I used to stretch it to 10 weeks because I hate it so much, now i'm 5-6 weeks and due.

AU$16.50, about every 6 weeks at a guess. No tipping here.
"Number 4 on the back and sides, scissors but very short on top." I used to go to one place all the time, the cut was fine but the hairdresser was uninterested at best, rude at worst. Now I go to a new place nearby, price about the same, I like the cut better, and they are friendly too.

Chris.

$13 + $7 tip at the local salon. I tip generously because the young woman who cuts my hair is a former student.

HOWEVER: The best haircut experience I've had is at Jungle Red Salon in Minneapolis. I went there about every four weeks for several years. You get a great neck/shoulder massage, aromatherapy oils massaged into your scalp, and an excellent cup of coffee. The stylists are all very hip and friendly, and they had the sweetest cat patrolling the salon. I used to bring the cat treats, which she loved.

I spend less time in Minneapolis now, so I haven't been to Jungle Red for a couple of years. But I highly recommend it to anyone living in the Twin Cities area. Great manicures and pedicures, too.

The place also sports an art gallery, and exhibition opening parties (not to mention an awesome annual Christmas party) are thrown there several times a year. Regular customers receive invitations by mail. Suzanne, the owner, is great; she makes it a point to get to know customers.

When I was going there, a regular cut was about $30. I always felt at home and was treated very well. It's located on LaSalle avenue, a couple of blocks south of the downtown Hyatt.

Usually cut every six weeks

The girl that cut my hair for 16 years moved to CA about three years ago so I have had to shop around. Sara used to charge me $15, I always gave a $5 tip.

I have tried several franchise shops they are cheaper about $10 - $15, this will depend if they just squirt and cut, or if they shampoo first. I still tip $5.

I get my hair cut every 8-10 weeks. Adrianne has been cutting my hair my entire life, same style too(I dont like change. She runs a little 1 chair salon in her home, only costs $10, plus I usually tip since she usually fits me in immediately

price will be rising........

was $13 with a $2 tip. Now it will be $150 (gas round trip) plus haircut charges and large tip. Greg, please tell Bobby he has a new client =:0

I get mine cut at a local barber shop in Houston where all the movers and shakers in town get their hair cut (Times Barber Shop). It's $15.00 with a $5.00 tip every 4 weeks.
You never know who will drop in! Anyone from the mayor to maybe a celebrity or two. I've been going there for about 6 years.

Nothing. I shaved my head 3 years ago and was the best thing I ever did. Keep it mega short with a pair of clippers I bought that have long since paid for themselves with the money saved at the barber shop

£6-£8 depending how far I can be bothered to walk.

Amazingly the £6 barbers ( which is ironically run by females) has a loyalty card which gives a free cut every 4 visits.

I think il use them more now the loyalty card has arrived.

She does do a good job with a setting 2 back and sides with a bit of choppy styling up top.

However id much prefer a bloke running his hands over my head LOL....

Tend to go when I am sick of the amount of hair I gather. Did attempt to grow it out for a thicker style but the annoyance of having to blow dry and use masses of Wax/Mud and wash damned Wax and Mud out got to me in the end.
I dont reccommend Dax!!!! Bloody stuff is a nightmare to wash out.

Not to mention having to use conditioner as I found the longer my hair got the more it seemed to be breaking and felt limp.

More expense when a dash of Molten Browns Black Pepper Recharge or Bracing Birch or indeed whatever shower gel im currently using washes hair nicely.

No beauty school drop-out here!

I'm a hairdresser but haven't worked in a shop for 30+ years. I still "do" friends and family for free. They only pay me for chemical work (perms or color), about $25 a pop.

My next door neighbor is a high-end stylist, his cuts are like $50, chemical work $100 and up. (40,000 licensed hairdressers in New Jersey and >I< get the straight one living next door...)

I've been going to the same gal for about twelve years. She's a little, tiny thing, little tiny hands, little tiny shoes, little tiny voice, and she runs the place with her husband who is the biggest clunkhead you could imagine! Think Brad Garrett from "Everybody Loves Raymond". A 20-year army guy gets discharged and enrolls in beauty school - go figure. He does nice hair, though.

I pay $20 for cut, $10 for eyebrow waxing >insert scream< and tip $7 (extra at Xmas). I do my own color (Clairol #28).

I pay 26 $ for washing, cutting, blow drying and flat ironing my hair every 5-6 weeks. If I´d live in the US where the prices are much lower, I´d go much more often to get my hair cut :D
I often dye my hair myself but if I want to get my hair bleached, I let it do my hairdresser because it really is difficult to get a pretty blonde tone without having an orange or yellow undertone.
I really am vain when it is about my hair, but actually I want to become a hairdresser myself LOL.
Over here, people tend to claim that male hairdressers are gay. Do you have that cliche in the US as well!?

Yup, also in Italy male hairdressers are gay and I know 5 of them ;) while barbers aren't gay and I know 3 of them!

More serious answer...

I have it done as little as possible. I'm cheap. I hate being trapped in that chair. I despise it when I get stuck with someone doing it who babbles inanely the whole time. Although, I have had a few people who are intelligent or fun to talk to...but of course they always seem to move on to bigger things.

I go to a local place, not chain. I try to keep business local. It currently runs about $15. I pay about 15% tip. I've seen some places advertise as little as $8.

people tend to claim that male hairdressers are gay.

I think this is a stereotype. There are many straight hairdressers, nurses, and office workers. Just because they work in a field that was traditionally a women's area.

Now I did have an experience as I was shopping after my Sara left me. I ususally have women cut my hair, but this was a walk-in whoever is available end of the day cut.

I thought as he was cutting my hair that he leaned into me more than necessary, and there seemed to be a flashlight in his pocket. Then he asked me if I ever consider manscaping. Having never heard that term before, I ran home and looked it up on the internet, then I pretty much knew.

I currently go to the salon at JC Penney, where Nancy shampoos & cuts my hair for $23, plus a $3 tip. I was going every couple months, but haven't been since late August. Guess I'd better go next week, or I'll be looking like one of the Bay City Rollers (70's rock group) again, at least that's what my buddy Sam will say. If I were anywhere within a days drive of Omaha, I'd be going to Bobby for sure - he's totally adorable.
