does any body in the club know anything about the hamilton automatic washer when it was made in twin rivers wisc? would love to see one in action or any history would be helpful has always been my dream machine, mike
If I am not mistaken, for a good many years Norge made them (the earliest Hamilton Washers even shared Norge's Timeline Timer) and then when Hamilton was bought by White Consolidated Industries their washers began using the Westinghouse/Franklin design, am I right guys? PAT COFFEY
Hi Pat, I do believe that you are completely correct when you said that Hamilton never made an automatic washer. I never saw a HW that was a WCI design but who knows, was the last HW made by Blackstone or an I just thinking about the Blackstone made Hoover washer and dryer?
The first time I was even aware of the Hamilton brand was in the 1969 Consumer's Reports article on Automatic Washers which was the last time there were so many diverse American brands tested. IIRC within a few years most of those brands were either assimilated into others or just plain gone. The Hamilton tested seemed to have cabinet specs and issues different from the Norge although the article indicates that it's capacity was, like the Fedders/Norge, 30% larger than most; usually if a machine was a clone it was rated right next to its original with a phrase that went "model tested essentially similar to Handydandy model 666"...Didn't we just download an extensive Hamilton Service Manual? That should tell us something.
Bajaspuma very interesting. I did not know "Blackstone" was a washer brand as a kid. Even after seeing one in a magazine Tide ad. Brands must of followed marketing regions at one time. I had an aunt that dragged a "Universal" dryer back from Kansas. She told me she bought it through the gas company. I think it was a rebadged Apex machine. alr
