At Habitat I saw a Hamilton Beach blender. It's avocado with woodgrain trim around the control buttons. It looks interesting because the base is rectangular with the buttons at the right of the jar instead of in front. It said "SCM Hamilton Beach", so I guess Smith Corona owned them at the time, and "Starflyte" which I guess is the model.

Not sure if it's a cheapo or not, it seems it could be because the jar was plastic. It had one of my favorite vintage plugs, the little GE one like my GE fans have.

Almost bought it, because it looks unusual and I like avocado smalls for some reason. Plus it seems I saw a drawing of a similar blender in a children's book I had as a kid which was also green. I didn't see any on eBay or Google images that had that style console.

I have never owned a blender.  We had a couple of different ones growing up, I remember both of them had the wide selection of push-button speeds with all the descriptive settings.

I remember thinking "how does it do all those different things" and then I soon realized it didn't, just creative names for different speeds!  Anytime I asked to use it (it was fun) I was usually told no because it was too much work to take apart and clean, LOL.

I just looked at new ones and they still have all the speeds, updated with new verbiage.

A Google search turned this up on Ireland eBay.  Doesn't say Starflyte or Hamilton Beach but sounds like what you're describing.  Pretty unique one, I've never seen one like it.

I went back today to see if it was still there but it sold.

It looked a lot like the one in that picture, but instead of a timer, there was a slider switch there that selected between the higher and lower speeds. And it was a Proctor Silex actually, I got confused on the name.

As far as blenders, I have two. One is a small Hamilton Beach I got at Sears for about $10 a few years ago. I used to use it a lot for protein shakes, but I haven't used it in a while so I boxed it up and put it in the cupboard. It only has one button, pulse.

Then last summer right before hurricane Irma, I got a KitchenAid Ultra Power blender on eBay. It has 5 speeds and touchpad controls instead of buttons. It has a glass jar and metal base. It works alright, I haven't used it much because as you mention, it's kind of a pain to take apart and clean. I do sometimes put warm water and a drop or two of dishwasher soap and run it on low, but to clean down in the gasket area you kind of have to take it all apart.

I use a blender all the time

Right now its a mid 50s turquoise Waring, I made coleslaw in it last week, I cant keep house without one, like all my appliances, I switch them out once in a while, I probably have 200 or more.

It seems like I remember seeing a Sears CounterCraft version of the SCM Proctor-Silex blender that's shown above. My old catalogs are packed up at storage, so I can't check now.

SCM owned Proctor-Silex from 1966 until 1983.[this post was last edited: 7/16/2018-13:06]

What I do

Is cut the cabbage in cubes about an inch square, fill the blender, then cover with cold water, run on high speed about 3 to 5 seconds, drain in a colander and then add whatever you want, I don't really have a recipe, I just add about a tablespoon or so sugar, about the same or a little more white vinegar, salt pepper and enough Dukes mayo to moisten, For BBQ slaw, which is what everyone around here eats, I add the sugar and vinegar, salt and pepper then catchup,
