Handle kdi-55

Does anyone know how to take off a handle off a kdi-55? I want to fix up the top. The first section of butcher block separated and I removed the bolts, hit with the hammer, but it won't budge.

Is there someway the handle comes off? Are the ends threaded in? Is it glued in?
