Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

It was a G weekend! Greg found the tirquoise G a few weeks ago at an estate sale. I found the tan G on Friday during the thrift store jaunt. Both enjoyed their treatments at the spa!

Thanks again Pat.

The original on/off switch for the Bendix had an integral thermal overload reset for the motor. Unfortunately the thermal overload had gone bad, causing the overload to pop as soon as the spin started.

After a new capacitor on the motor, a Dayton clutch, a new remote on/off switch with a separate thermal overload from a 61-63 Frigidaire, we were back in business!

The start switch now needs some work as it has a tendency to get stuck in the run position. More work for a different day.

The last ones on my phone for tonight - what a great week it was!  Thank you to everyone for such a wonderful week.  I can't stand the thought of work tomorrow...

We made our annual pilgrimage to the Nebraska Furniture Mart appliance department on Saturday, and saw many wondrous sights. We counted only nine (9!) "traditional" U.S. toploading washers (non-HE or Energy Star) on the sales floor and that includes one clearance model GE and two Haier models with agitators. I'll start a thread in Deluxe with a couple of the odd sights at the store.

We spent some time on the Bendix Power-Surge washer, a project that has been underway for a few holiday gatherings around here. To solve the problem of a faulty motor protector switch, we replaced it with an OEM part - for another brand.

Surging Progress

Because I used a pump from a slightly later Philco-Bendix washer, it didn't have the same spring-tension mounting system that this washer originally needed to serve as a clutch for the motor. We also used another 'work-around' part that I had on hand - an off-the-rack clutch made by Dayton. It seems to work perfectly and is actually a much more reliable and hopefully long-lived solution.

We have a stuck motor switch (again or still?) and a sluggish timer escapement so there are a couple of things left to do but we did get to enjoy a couple of loads. It's truly a unique washer.

I sure have loved seeing all of these great pictures but let me tell you it was even better to be there in person! Greg thank you so much for the fantastic time!! Both you and Skyler are wonderful hosts! It was so good to see everyone again and to meet some great new friends as well. I just can't believe how fast those five days flew by!

Greg,
Thanks again for a great week. It was so good to all be together again and meet some new friends as well. The pictures bring it all back......it was great fun.
I got back to Tucson about 7:30pm to a malfunctioning KDS20........hmmmmm.
And some "fur children" who were glad to see me.
Thanks again Greg.

I had so much fun, I was too distracted to take pictures! I just realized that!

Glad the others captured the fun! Wish I didn't have to go to work saturday, so I could stay longer!
