Help Support :

Happy Anniversary Automaticwasher.org! I joined in March of 2003. I do not visit this site as often as I used to, however still do enjoy it when I do. Thank you Robert for making this all possible! Here's to another 20 years!

Happy Anniversary ( a little late)

It's neat to hear more of the history and see the archived pages. I haven't been here since the early days, but coincidentally  landed on the site after Googling when I saw you on TLC in 2012 and it ignited an interest, that became a passion for vintage appliances.

Congratulations, and Thank You.. on both counts!

Thank you! And:

Happy anniversary!! (A little late)

It seems yesterday to see a 12-13 years old me in front of a Microsoft 98 at dad's shop office or city library waiting for washer pictures and posts to download (it took like 10 mins for a thread) print and collect them in books I made to drool over at home! I later discovered floppy discs so could watch them at home where I didn't have internet!

I still have those books and can't do nothing but smile while I happen to look at them.

I vividly remember canlling<span style="font-size: 12pt;"> my dad or whoever I knew and say "look see it is not just me?".  And remember him not caring much and tell me to shut internet off "When phone bill comes you gonna pay for it?".</span>

Wishing my mother was still be with me to let her see too!

I used to read the site regularly but did not become a member until many years later as I decided to partecipate.  And got my own computer.

By then I was 20 years old myself.

Congratulations for a job VERY well done

It’s a fifteenth anniversary for me joining this site and I’ve enjoyed the company of this group every step of the way.
Thank you Robert for bringing us all together and for exceeding everyone’s expectations in inventing and maintaining this site.

Happy Anniversary!

I’m new in these parts but it has been wonderful starting to get to know you guys and learning more everyday. I was only 11 years old when this site started so I’m still a bit green when it comes to all the knowledge there is to learn here, but I’ve had a fascination with vintage stuff in particular since I was a young kid going garbage picking with my younger brother and finding cool stuff that we couldn’t understand why anyone would throw away. We definitely drove our parents crazy with the stuff we’d bring home. All these years later I still have the same excitement when I find something cool to diagnose and get running again. It’s awesome to be a part of this fantastic community. Thank you! Cheers to the next 20 years!

Thank you, Robert.  It was Jeff_Adelphi's Yahoo club that you were referring to, amIright? I am glad for all of the people with smarts to bring us together and keep us going and I am so glad that I called ALCO Appliance in January, 1981, looking for a Frigidaire Unimatic washer and met John and Jeff Lefever. The world has not been the same since. At the time, I lived 45 minutes around the Beltway from them and by October of 1981 I lived 4.5 miles away from them  in a townhouse in Greenbelt that John helped me find.   He said it  had a cast concrete first floor so it would not collapse when we filled it with appliances. You saw the appliances and materials that we loaned to  Ellen Lupton of the Cooper Hewitt Museum for her 1993 exhibit Mechanical Brides and found that there were others who loved the appliances that you loved.  I think you told us that you almost got in trouble for trying to lift the lid on the turquoise Frigidaire Custom Imperial washer  to get a glimpse of the Three Ring Agitator inside.  I don't remember if you found John and me from the Acknowledgements page in the book Mechanical Brides that accompanied the show at the Cooper Hewitt or if you got our names from the tags beside our contributions, but you eventually found us. What fun we have had. Thank you again for helping to create an international disorganization.

Congrats, Robert!

I just looked back and I’ve been here for 16 years! I had no idea the site was so young when I joined back in 2005. My, how time flies.

I’ve attended wash-ins in Texas and Arizona and have met some great people over the years. I have learned so much, and I still come here almost daily.

Here’s to another 20 years!

Bryan
