Thanksgiving day 2005
And here we are again....Fifty years later. Thanksgiving of 2005.
My family, same house, same room, same china, same dining table, and dining chairs.
The lady in the grey top, on the right side is my aunt. The same aunt that was the little girl in the photo from 1955.
We have finished dinner here, and are playing games.
I have owned the house for the last 27 years, so we can still have our family Thanksgiving day here. The family has grown, so I set ups card tables in the basement rec room also.
All in all it's a good time, and most everyone stays from noon until about 9:00 PM
We have had our Thanksgiving days here since 1930. So with the way things change so fast, it's nice to pretend that us adults are still kids again. Even if it's only for one day a year! lol!

I was expecting my mom and sister, but my mom took ill suddenly on Sunday. It turns out she had to have her tonsils out!
So my sister is struggling to make her first Thanksgiving dinner, and I am coaching her long-distance, which I consider payback for all those years she sat out the cooking in the living room with dad
In the meantime, we have two friends coming over, and it should be a nice mellow Thanksgiving. Just us, our friends and the dogs (and any other "orphans" John comes across tomorrow at work. Thanksgiving is a big holiday for Amtrak, but the actual day finds lots of people on layovers.)

My family and I are getting together along with Jennifer, my girlfriend. Now since she lives up in Surrey, B.C., we also celebrated Canada's Thanksgiving, which is our Columbus day. I got to meet her family and friends. I guess you'd say we are getting two Thanksgivings this year, and I feel this only fitting since I really have much to be thankful this year. May everyone be able to be with those they are most near and dear to, and then eat a ton of turkey.

Turkey: moist.
Stuffing: crispy.
Gravy: velvety.

I left ethnic NYC (Read: some cooking techniques remain; ducks and runs *LOL* ) for a trek to "real America" in New England.
Vegetables out of the can into Gladware disposable plastic containers, heated in the nuker. Gravy in a non-stick pot (my understanding is that non-stick pots are not good for this purpose). Too much flour and cornstarch. Spill-over under coil element flared up and casued a tiny fire. That in turn overheated the pot and caused the gravy to scorch.
The turkey was was roasted in a Nesco 18 quart portable electric oven. YUMMY! [Today's version of the classic Westinghouse roaster that came on a stand].
I was a good guest however and stayed out of the kithchen until after dinner. Loaded the near BOL hotpoint DW. Did manage to secure it to the counter so it would not tip over. YIKES!
Memories. Sweet sweet memories! I am thankful for the invite and enjoyed the event. Hope everyone had a festive holdiay as well!

I"ve had an 18-qt Nesco for about 4 years now. I absolutely love it. My friends borrowed mine the first year I had it and were so impressed they went out and bought one for themselves turkey-day weeekend. It consistantly delivers super moise results, even the white meat. And he doesn't even flip Turkey Tom over half-way thorugh cooking process.
I also use mine for potroasts, as a 2nd oven for roasting and cooking meats in a cassarole dish or pan (a size-compatible one). I also used it to finish cooking teh Chicken Mole for the Texas Wash-in this fall. I've yet to have a need or opportunity to use it for a super large batch of soup or chili, but I know I have it available if needbe. Mine has the nonstick cook well, a must as far as I'm concerned.
