Wow, I think this washer has been painted, by who I have no idea. I could be wrong but it looks like a 1954 or so model which would put it right before the filter-flo machines were introduced.

Its a 1953 or 1954 model

I have a small dealers book that shows the 1954 line of GE washers and that one is in it....and yes it is pre filter flo and yes it has been repainted as GE didn't introduce colors until the beginning of 1955. FYI that does seem to be close to a 1955 GE color called cadet blue, which is a very rarely seen color (along with woodtone brown)

This Sure Is A Mystery

I wonder if this is a 1955 model in Cadet Blue? It’s definitely not the top of the line model from 1955, that was the very first filter-flo washer, with a fancier backsplash trim. It could be a middle of the line model for '55 though and maybe they offered colors in more than just the top of the line machine. If it is it also could be a filter-flo model, but I doubt it.

In early 1955, GE introduced their first FilterFlo washer the WA750M. There were two other models available in the line, both lacking the filterflo. The MOL washer (ebay) had an overflow rinse the BOL model was a bizarre, semi-automatic incarnation. It's very possible that this washer was purchased sometime in 1955 before all models had the filterflo feature and when color was newly intro'd to the line. Someone email the seller and get the model number, then we'll know for sure.

If you look closely at the picture, the lid is just a bit too shiny and perfect to have been painted - and we know how thick GE porcelain was...very durable.

I'm no expert

But, it does not seem possible that is a home paint job. If it was repainted it certianly was professional. Colour is very even and smooth, and reflects light very well. Also every single nook and cranny has been covered, even around the lid and plates.

Still, one could just ask the seller what is what instead of beating around the bush.

You guy's know how I am about the matching thing! Plus, it's not TOL! I know Picky, Picky, Picky!!!! If someone really wants it though, I could go get it and hold it for ya. It's just not my color. If it was a 56 TOL I'd paint it! And put it in the garage kitchen! Then watch Dean's head completely blow off!

OK, here's my take on it. The thing on the right is most likely the water saver button. Wouldn't surprise me if the water temp was in the timer rather than the side buttons like on Jon Charles' machine he grew up with. AND, it wouldn't surprise it IS the 1954 model yar. The knob reminds me very much of a TOL pair I saw in 1962 at a neighbor's house. The TOL model had timer dial on one side and water temp knob on the other side. (They called the temp knob fabri-flex). There was the water asver button inbetween those two knobs--a horizontal "key" that was used in 1960 or 1961 almost BOL GE Dryers as the start button.

And Greg you confirmed I"m not crazy although I talked with you about our GE washer. It looked just like teh one you'd found that Jon Charles now has but it did NOT have the filter-flo. So, I'm not crazy. There was a control panel of that style without a F-Flo. That was the machine bought to keep me out of the Bendix.

I have seen this color on an early 50's BOL GE stove. It is very rare though. Now why didn't I get that stove!

My parents had the matching dryer to this washer, in white. It had to be a 1954,1955,or 1956 model. Like most stuff from that era,it was built like a tank!

This washer is very similar to the one I grew up with, which was the 1954 Canadian GE that comes around as the pod occasionally (sp). Neighbors that lived above us had this washer, more BOL than ours. This one has a slide switch on the top of the console above the dial for hot or warm wash. The button on the right is the water saver. It is a 1 cycle washer with NO on/off switch. You have to pull the plug to shut it off..........really BOL. It is not a filter-flo either, but has the same 3 straight vane agitator. Ours had 2 knobs, the left one being the "fabri-flex" dial with hot, warm, and OFF settings. It did have an overflow rinse and would pause shortly after the first spin started in order for the clothes to settle down to the bottom of the tub. I always remember small articles of clothing getting caught in the pump, as all GE's were prone to do.

Coldspot your childhood GE is the exact one I saw in 1962 or so at friends house. And it was also a iece of literature that was in our owners manual for some reason.

I asked for photos of the machine interiors etc .... and this is the response that I received 3 days later:
"My daughter has our digital camera. The panel is intact and is in pretty good shape. The inside is also in good shape but we dont think the washer actually still works. It was mfg in 1955."
