Could anyone give an answer to what has happened or is happening with sears and wp? I understand that the oasis HE is on closeout,..probably a good time to get one,..but anyway what i am really wondering is if WP lost the sears contract to LG.
Has the relationship with sears/wp..come to an end?

I'm told that F/L laundry will now be sourced from LG, and conventional direct drive washers will be going away soon (2012) due to energy restrictions. Also LG is coming out with a top load hi efficiency washer. I hope Sears and Whirlpool know what they're doing.Whirlpool has always had an agreement with Sears that Sears would come out with the innovations first. If there are any bugs to work out, it's Sears' problem. That's their "cost" for getting the innovation first. Six months later, Whirlpool comes out with same, but, hopefully, all the bugs are, at leasr, identified and known.

I also noticed while walking around the appliance dept. in Sears is that many Kenmore top freezer and side x side refrigerators are made by LG now instead of Whirlpool.
I noticed the LG phenomenon about two years ago, when one of our local mom & pop appliance stores in my tiny burg (pop. 4,500), which until then sold Whirlpool and KitchenAid products, dropped KA and replaced it with LG.
It's interesting they now sell LG and Whirlpool. Talk about warring factions!

If this is completely true and happening with no more Whirlpool products for Sears (including their dishwasher line), I think hell has frozen over.

Ever since K-Mart took over,their sales have plummeted in appliances.back in their "haydays" though,kenmore was in every household whether it be a vacuum cleaner,washer,dryer,Refrigerator or toaster,Kenmore became a common name in homes across the Continental United States and D.C.I'm sure the majority of us here remember the tune---"Sears has a bathtub ring....Sears has everything! "That now is far from true anymore and has been that way now for quite some time.You used to be able to but things like floor tile,carpeting,metal kitchen cabinets,appliance parts,garden supplies and caramel corn and hot dogs at most of their retail stores. Good luck finding any help from associates unless they're in appliances where they have to sell to be able to stay there because they're on 100% commission! Been there,done that--won't go back.

Sears is still the largest seller of appliances in the USA . Lowes is # two when Sears goes belly up there will be a scramble to buy the Kenmore name I think there is a good chance it could happen this year. I would like to here other peoples predictions of when and who might buy the KM name.

To me, it would make good sense for Whirlpool to get ownership of the Kenmore name for any number of reasons.

I am not a fan of Sears. The many manufacturers who supplied their goods made some good products but it made service and parts more expensive and harder to obtain. Sales ontracts with revolving, interest, predatory insurance, appliance service contracts and credit card offers and pushy marketeers turned me off. I enjoy owning a brand that is free from Kenmore opporession.
I am not a fan of Sears. The many manufacturers who supplied their goods made some good products but it made service and parts more expensive and harder to obtain. If Sears were to go out of business, and the Kenmore name ended up for sale, I have to think there's a good chance it would be bought by someone in China.
Whirlpool would be a logical owner for Kenmore, given how many appliances they've made for Sears. But here I wonder if someone wouldn't make a fuss about Whirlpool buying another name/company, even though they historically were the actual makers of appliances sold under that name.

In the european markets we have seen same brands machines made by different contractors along years, even by direct competitors
Guess Sears simply will seel the brand to the best offerer

I would say a foreign manufacturer would snap up the Kenmore name pretty fast given that Whirlpool would very likely have problems obtaining it given their 3/5 market share now and what other company would want it? Alliance? Hardly. General Electric? They don't even want their own appliance division. That leaves Electrolux of Sweden and the Asian brands.

As someone mentioned and I have to agree Whirlpool has positioned itself in the marketplace that is does not need to rely on Sears anymore. Rumor has it Whirlpool owns a good stake in Lowe's and other retailers.
Lucky-Gold Star (LG) as it used to be known in this country and the Sears issue is probably all about the $$$...
Whirlpool just recently won it's long court battle with LG over the refrigerator ice maker/dispenser issue.
Whirlpool Corporation is by far an undervalued company and a choice stock buy.

I was told that L.G.was making numerous components and other electronic parts being used in many different American made appliances for decades before they gobbled up many different Asian/Korean brands that were going belly up in the late 80's.They reformed and twigged them using many different engineers from those bought brands and incorporated them all as one,Lucky Goldstar(L.G.).IMHP American made appliances have been losing in their struggle to afford keeping American workers busy.The cost of them paying out to retired emplyees' pention and the high cost of health coverage has skyrocketed.Union dues,open legal cases on employee workman's compensation,and work related injories have also added to the dismisal of American based appliance manufacturer's factories. Every one of whom have shut down their facilities here and gone to outside countries,employing their workers who will work dilligently for a lot less and meet the needs of their consumers with fewer strikes and less bennifits.It's the manufacturer's fault,if anyone's,that American brands are failing now.Not L.G's,not Samsung's and not Haire's.Not that I'm into being old fashion but pride always comes before the fall.
