Somewhere but? Maybe I saw it in an old garage but looks and sounds familiar from long ago...
This isn't going to be helpful, lol, but yes I've seen it for sale on ebay fairly frequently. It sounds like just a variation on granulated soap that is probably indistinguishable, in practice, from any of the other contemporary products.
My grandfather did some consulting work right after WW2 with the Fischer Soap Company in Cincinnati--wonder if there was a connection.

The Werk Soap Company
was started in 1893 by a German immigrant named Michael Werk. It eventually became the Michael Werk & Sons Soap Company. They were known also for a large mansion in Cincinnati.
