This isn't Let's Make a Deal and I'm not Monty H

While the language used isn't specifically bad it is obviously in poor taste. A lot of people really like this web site and want to see it treated with respect.

Why do I have repeat this am I not speaking clearly?

It doesn't matter who flags what as I have the ability to restore it if I want to. I you have a problem with it then take it up with me, not the people who clicked report, but in this case I told you what my decision was now deal with it.

OK Robert, but . . .

I think the fact that none of the Self-appointed Seven are stepping up here to reveal and/or defend themselves speaks volumes about their invertebrate traits. If they are so righteously high and mighty, why hasn't a single one of them come forward to justify their actions? It's a despicable case of cowardice no matter how you slice it.

Robert,

I have absolutely no idea what was posted and given that there are only a couple of words in the English language that make me raise my eye-brows, I possibly wouldn't have found it too bad. That is me, not everyone else. However, thank you for altering the web-site so that we, as participants, may effectively 'have a say' as to what remains posted and what does not. Whilst I know that we could always email you directly, and I have done so in the past, this does make it a little easier. .....

BUT....

The act of having to compose an email does mean that an individual has to give some thought as to the 'whys' and 'what fors' rather than just 'click'. I gather that is why there is a trigger number?

I have no doubt at all that you will be keeping track of who clicks on whose posts to see if there is a particular pattern arising and that we can be sure that, should there be some form of 'post-bullying' occuring with particular members posts, you take those people to task.

Kind Regards

Chris

Ralph, you're missing the point. Robert reviewed the complaints and sided with them. That's all that matters.

Jeff, yes, Robert did "side" with them (although I'm not exactly sure he would appreciate the use of that term) but also stated above that he did not "believe that anything that was posted in the actual text was offensive." He went on to say that he *did not* review the complaints and only speculates that since the content wasn't offensive, the flaggers must have been put off by the title.

We won't know the motivation behind any of the complaints unless Robert takes the time to review them and chooses to share that information with us, something which as webmaster he is under no obligation to do.

Considering the still very questionable circumstances surrounding the flagging and deleting, I stand behind every statement I have made above, and I am confident that not a single one of the pathetically prissy flaggers will step up and stand behind their cowardly actions, even though I suspect every last one of them is quite capable of doing so in a pair of stilettos.

I am bitterly dismayed

by the tone of this thread.

In courts of law, one has the right to know one's accusers.

I have a feeling that these seven are people who just plain don't like Keven.

Ralph you obviously don't get it. I said I suspect that the others clicked because they might have thought that the title was in "poor taste". I looked at it and I DECIDED THAT THE TITLE WAS IN POOR TASTE. That's it, case closed. Granted I should probably have then deleted the title manually, but once I get the code changed next week it will automatically do that.

and, over my dead body will I allow the system to show who clicked report, that is for my internal use.

In courts of law, one has the right to know one's accusers.
This ain't no court of law.

I think we should all just let this one go.

Obviously Robert is trying to stay above the fray and not have these discussions become a pain in the you know what for him to deal with on a constant basis. You truly cannot please everyone, obviously, but I think he does a real close approximation. There's so much good stuff that goes on and gets said here, let's not lose sight of that.

The fact of the matter is...

Robert runs this site out of his own pocket. And, everyone seems to forget that the members here are not the only ones that read what's put on here. Everyone in the world does.

Out of respect to Robert and all of this time and MONEY I might add, everyone needs to cool their jets. Be human, Civilized and polite. This is exactly why a rarely post, respond to a post, or take part in any conversation that goes on in these threads. WE are GUEST OF ROBERTS AND NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO THAT FACT!!!!!.

Thank you Sandy, that actually was not necessary to say anything.

I would appreciate it if those who clicked would not post it and keep it to themselves. I want people to be comfortable pressing that button when they believe it is necessary which can be/is extremely helpful to me at times. I DO NOT WANT the ranting and raving of a few to put others off from helping me manage the site.

OK Robert

It strikes me that perhaps the entire thread should be deleted (rather than tagged, displayed, and remaining open for speculative comentary) with perhaps a reverse process that e-mails the originator to advise of such action having been taken. I don't know if that's just a simple nose twitch or involves the spell book, though.

None of the discussion above would have happened if we hadn't been allowed to see that the post had been prohibited in the first place. Robert, maybe you have already considered that option and found reason not to use it. I'm just offering the outcome of my observation.

C'mon Ralph~ you are above this..

"It strikes me that perhaps the entire thread should be deleted (rather than tagged, displayed, and remaining open for speculative commentary"

Ralph, I am really surprised at you. You are normally so polite and respectful. What's the deal? For any of us to suggest to Robert how to run HIS site is downright wrong. Keep in mind that he runs this site on his OWN dime, and that gives none of us a right to b*tch at him. Period..
I have been a member of AW.org for several years, and have seen the "Super Forum" turned into a liberal political blog, a forum to discuss personal problems, and an attack board against Conservative members and Gay Republicans. Does this annoy me? Sure, because I enjoy this club, and IMO, this rhetoric has alienated many long standing members. Would I ever suggest to Robert how to run it? Hell, no.. So I deal with it, or ignore it all together.

Oh, and before you ask, I was not one of the people who reported Panthera's post. I could really care less about anything he has to say to be honest.

Good Night all! =)

> an attack board against Conservative members and Gay Republicans <

That's an outrageous claim. If you want to say this board has a left-leaning membership, I think that would be correct. But to say this board exists to attack conservative members is nothing short of outrageous. I've not seen you or anyone else personally attacked on this board, unless you've attacked first, which, incidentally, has nearly always been the case.

Also, I participate in about two dozen online forums, and AW is one of only THREE boards that lean to the left (the other two are Huffington.com and DU.com). The other 20-plus boards have resident gangs of right-wing thug users (and even worse, right-wing moderators) who immediately jump on anyone who offers a leftist point of view. Fortunately this situation is changing on a few boards since Obama was elected, but still, there's a major right-wing bias on most sites.

"I've not seen you or anyone else personally attacked on this board, unless you've attacked first, which, incidentally, has nearly always been the case".

Oh, really? You are intitled to your opinion and I am mine. Period.
Now, name instances of when I attacked you, or anyone else? I retaliate, not instigate. So, if you are going to make a claim, be prepared to back it up!

I offer this thread as the most handy example of instigation:

"...have seen the "Super Forum" turned into a liberal political blog, a forum to discuss personal problems, and an attack board against Conservative members and Gay Republicans"

If the Super Forum was archived I could find plenty of other examples.

lol..

Just as I thought.

Obviously, you don't know the difference between making an observation and an attack on a specific individual. I have not singled out any members, when you know I could have done so. You are ALWAYS so free to offer your opinions, Jeff, and we all know you have alot of them, but when someone else does it, you find fault.

Now, tell me something? Do you collect vintage appliances, or are you here to instigate trouble?

> I have not singled out any members

No, you took a sideswipe at the majority of members.

But it was just an observation, right?

Well here's an observation back at you: a man who patronizes a political party which is actively fighting to take away his civil rights is either unbelievably stupid or certifiably insane.

That's my parting off-topic shot in this thread.
