So, I saw this on the heating oil receipt/bill that was left for us this morning;

"...The heating oil included in this delivery contains a percentage of biofuel ranging from 5% up to 26% of the total gallons delivered. Biofuel is produced from organic feedstocks and can vary from typical heating oil in energy content and consumption."

My question is does the biofuel give me less energy when it burns or more? And do I consume it faster or slower than "typical" heating oil?

It contains slightly less energy, on average, than petroleum oil.  This is minor compared to the aggressive solvent nature biofuels tend to possess. You may find that it removes paint wherever there is a seep; seals start leaking; and worst of all - it dissolves and breaks up a lot of the crud from the system and clogs many filters rapidly.

If you use biofuel in a "new" system normally it's OK. But switching to this in an old system, may open Pandora's Box of Slimy Surprises.
