Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Great washers: Congrats on getting them working. That Whirlpool is amazing, especially with that multi purpose filter and the tub light. Both are amongst the best parts of the machine. Could not get any better.

Have a good one,
James

well i can tell its spring everyone is gettin there toys out.. love the 1-18 such a good washer...hum i think im gonna have to roll mine out and get in on all the fun

serious question--

Wondering if that agitator is the Whirly's original? NOT that I question your expertise, mind you--I'm definitely not an expert myself. I didn't know that chrome tops were used as early as 1961, or that particular Whirpool logo. We had a low-line Whirlpool ca. 1965--Magic Mix brush filter, one dial, one temp switch (no water level), with a plain black Surgilator. Maybe your '61 is fancier--just wondering--can you post a pic of the outside? Thanks.

YAAAAAY!!!! Love the action shots! I know you will have fun with these two classics.

Norgenocker, the Surgilator and chrome cap were original to this model machine. I guess the low end models would not have had the chrome cap.

Our (January) 1962 LJA-3200 had a chrome agitator cap and Magic Mix (with turquoise body, exactly like TopLoader55's). I always considered it to be a somewhat low-end model -- three temps (choice of wash temp only, rinse temps not stated on the knob), three water levels, two cycles/speeds.

Jet Flow Lint Filter

That always cracked me up on the 1-18. Jet Flow with a prostate problem. Makes you wonder if they named it before they actually saw it operate.

The Jet Flow...

Actually needs cleaning half way through the Wash. I have found that after two loads of wash, it's very effective, although there is no motion like a Filter Flow,it really filters out alot of "crap". But I'll tell you... like the guys say,"The washing a rinsing of clothes in any Fridgidaire is amazing". I did my Matress Pad and my Sheets in that machine last night and truely, my bedding never smelled so fresh. (That leaves alot open, but I'll leave it at the machines capability. LOL) There was hardly any odor from the detergent, and trulu everything smelled clean. I can only use Tide and no Fabric Softner otherwise my skin gets itchy. More photos in a short while.

Sheets...

There is nothing like sheets washed in Tide in the Frigidaire that have been air dried... When I first got my 1-18 I wanted to wash and re-wash everything I had because of all the junk that jet-flo caught that was being left in by the Whirlpool DD.

The 1-18 control panels are my favorite of all time. I remember my grandparent's had a "fake" Westy 1-18, and I absolutely loved that washer. I hadn't the slightest idea that it wasn't real haha.
