To gregm, and Coldspot66 Transportation. These machines are beautiful and it is a reminder of when the United States had quality, supreme engineering and we still manufactured our own appliances. Just the weight, design and the detail reminds me of the old days when we were proud to buy American Made.

I like Jim and the twins to be free. LOL. The 95 jet spray rinse on the 1-18 is incredible.Each one of those little jets seem to have their own spray pattern. I've never seen anything like it.Shredmore is permantly retired.

you can borrow it any time. Its agitator is rather lame--just a small arc--but you wouldn't want violent thrashing for such a delicate operation, would you?

Great washers: Congrats on getting them working. That Whirlpool is amazing, especially with that multi purpose filter and the tub light. Both are amongst the best parts of the machine. Could not get any better.

Fab photo shots, I love the Whirly machine, especially the magic mix filter, could listen to it sloshing away all day...

I always think it looks a "mans machine" all that Chrome n Enamel along with the Black agi & additional water action!!!

Those are some great shots of both machines. The whirlpool looks so stately - while the Frigidaire looks so new-age! You've got some great machines there - thanks for showing them off.

serious question--

Wondering if that agitator is the Whirly's original? NOT that I question your expertise, mind you--I'm definitely not an expert myself. I didn't know that chrome tops were used as early as 1961, or that particular Whirpool logo. We had a low-line Whirlpool ca. 1965--Magic Mix brush filter, one dial, one temp switch (no water level), with a plain black Surgilator. Maybe your '61 is fancier--just wondering--can you post a pic of the outside? Thanks.

Norgenocker, the Surgilator and chrome cap were original to this model machine. I guess the low end models would not have had the chrome cap.

Our (January) 1962 LJA-3200 had a chrome agitator cap and Magic Mix (with turquoise body, exactly like TopLoader55's). I always considered it to be a somewhat low-end model -- three temps (choice of wash temp only, rinse temps not stated on the knob), three water levels, two cycles/speeds.
