Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

hehe

when i did my Hotpoint video earlier i say about clear water with foam on top, didnt realise what it was, the extra rinse i did did not clear it and i gave up. Wondered why in the past its been foamy but nobody suffers with skin reactions? Unlike ariel which really does not rinse out even the ariel non bio tabs my mum uses are not good rinsers. And dont clean whites at any cost on a 40.c synthetic wash. How ariel lie about using quickwash on whites is beyond me? They mean a 30 min quickwash or using the time reduce button on the machine? Major difference between the 2, Nick.

You are absolutely correct about Ariel leaving foam in the last rinse, and it's not just Ariel. Most PG powder / tablet formulations do the same, though as Jon says the liquid is better. I haven't tried Daz or Bold liquid, so can't comment. Fairy liquid is harder to rinse than Ariel liquid.

Jon's point about there being foam on the head of the last rinse not mattering so long as the water is crystal clear is something which I cannot phsychologically get over, though I'm sure it's the truth. I like a clear rinse. I also hate it when on the final spin on, say a load of towels, there is what looks like sudsy water being thrown against the door glass from the puddle in the boot.

A word of advice for those who like a clear rinse. Persil powder is good, Persil tablets are better. Persil Gel tablets are the best yet for rinsing. Persil liquids are fairly hideous, especially the non bio which IME acts like a light duty SLS detergent and foams hugely in the wash and in the rinse. It does have a great scent though and is a very versatile product.

Carl given that you are in the next county to me, it's likely that our experiences will be similar due to the water conditions.

Having said all that, I am of course straight off to Tesco after work to get me some new formulation Ariel LOL

Thanks very much, Nick. :-)

I was going to get around to asking about local water conditions. :-) A common experience of people with M.E./CFS/CFIDS is some issues in one’s minding spinning (LOL!) around until they answered, and I was going to ask you about your local water. I live in Bishop’s Stortford, so you are approximately 20 miles away from me.

We fitted one of those Hotpoint Calblock things (a magnetic water softener, which sounds like a load of nonsense, but it really does work on the washing machine, dishwasher and shower), and that softeners the water. However – and I think you have alluded to this – there is also the issue of the water itself. In any case, the water softener we are using does not remove the calcium and magnesium; it merely prevents it from settling on the elements and causing problems with the detergent.

We tried Persil Gel Colour tablets yesterday – well, I did! LOL – and that worked a treat. So much better. I’m sure Jon is right about the rinse not having to be completely clear, but I do believe from a health point of view that the final rinse water, excluding conditioner if used, should be completely clear. All traces of detergent should be completely rinsed out because clothes, to be clean, should have nothing on them whatsoever. That’s just me, and it probably also due to my experience of eczema, and also M.E., where traces of chemicals, for whatever reason – even if there is no proven health hazard – should be completely removed. I know you have mentioned you desire to have a clear rinse, too, Nick.

I tried Ecover (an ecological product) powder-based tablets (similar in shape and size to UK Persil) before we got this new Miele. I know many of you may dismiss product this as nonsense – it does have ‘proper’ ingredients, but they are sourced from plants instead of oil sources – but it rinses out perfectly. It does clean well, too – honest! The fragrance is from real lavender and is not synthetic. “Heathen?” you say?! ;-) More information is here: www.ecover.com.

However, we are sticking with Persil or Ariel.

Anyway… thanks, all. :-) Just had a quick break. Before that, I was talking to Jon on MSN, but I’d best be off for another rest. :-)
