Help my KDS-20 is leaking

I need some help or advice on what to do here.My Kitchenaid Kds-20 is leaking water when it empties..It's not much but enough where

I cant use it unless there is a plate with a towel under the valve.I took a pic with my phone and have pointed to where the water is coming from.

Is the drain valve broke or something lose?It runs and washes great clean dishes in less the hour...

The water drips right where that metal thing I have pointed to..I did have to take the drain hose off and use another one

when the took this out of the house they cut it very short...,.

Now that I looked at the pics I can see that the water is coming from where the valve is being pulled I think by the solenoid.

See how great this dishwasher looks it's in perfect shape.I would really like some advice on what to do..

Leaking KDS-20

I don't see exactly where the leak is coming from, but if it is coming from the drain valve you need a replacement DV, this was a very common problem on this style DV.

I have redone the pics and added some new ones, the arrow looked bigger until I posted it...Here is the new one ...

I also pointed to the place I think the water is coming from.I can't tell it only drips when it drains and it only does that after it is done draining

and not alot it stops after a few mins...

I just ran Soak Cycle on it and I guess it leaks about 4 table spoons of water....

I was wondering if some cement like silicone or some plumbers rubber cement would stop it?

I bet if this is valve is broke it's impossible to get....

Hi, based on your photos it llooks like the valve is leaking at the shaft seal. I don't believe that can be repaired, but the valve is still available. There's one on eBay (used) for about $36, and repair clinic has it for about $62 (the part number is 4163075, a Whirlpool #).

My advice is to replace the valve and not attempt a repair. The valve could still fail and you could have a pretty bad flood if you weren't around to catch it. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Yes Alan's advice is right on the money, we have lots of good used ones that I would sell for $20 plus shipping if you can't find one, you can use the DV from any KA DW from the KD15s-the KD20s so these valves are all over the place. The DVs on the KD15s and 16s were more durable and they NEVER leaked.

My 20 did the same thing.

It leaked in the same spot. I replaced the valve and all is well in 20 land.

Great advice, Guys..

That style valve was always prone to leaking at the linkage so unless you want to gamble, go with the new valve.
These are still used and sold by Hobart under part number 270399-00001 and cost 69.44 each. Available thru your local Hobart office or at the Hobart E-store.

Don't go crazy,Wes.Just buy a new valve and be done with it. Not worth the worry to do it any other way.
