I was installing that 1999 Maytag E.Q. Jet-clean dishwasher and it worked just fine
for 30 seconds then BooM. Sparks ,Ozone ,I got the hell shocked out of me bad.
I had the dishwasher not all the way in I wanted to let it run a rinse cycle and
make sure there was no leaking.
When I Shut the door and grab the bottom frame part and pushed it, I saw lighting , got the hell shocked out of me ,it cut the power off about half the house.
Every surge suppressor got torched bad , they smelled like burning plastic and two of them are the big expensive ones that you put your cable into and out of also.
My P.C. got fried but it was on a really cheap one , I forgot to use the good one on it.

My Heat pump and water heater work fine .
My 120 lines some of them are reading like 81 volts. My T.V. and wi-fi router works fine , my fridge works fine.If I turn on my coffee maker the lights go really dim and the compressor on the fridge turns off.
Every one of my CPFL Lights the ones that didn't get fried are like flickering and dim.
My Washer will fill up but once the motor starts the lights go really dim and the motor is having problems .
I turned it off .
I found out what caused it. The power wire for the dishwasher got caught up in the scissors like metal door hinge in the back and it cut the wires and grounded them out together .
I have a Electrician coming tomorrow but, I was wondering if anybody in here has any ideas about what happened?
I don't have any problems unless there is some current being pulled ,Vacuum,Coffee, and then everything goes strange.

Wow, that's really bad. The circuit should have tripped long before any of theother stuff happened. Sounds like you might have messed up the transformer the utility co uses if voltage is so low.

Shorted Power Line For The DW

Hi Wes, you all ready know what happened, what size wire runs to the DW, and what size breaker was it attached to ?

There is no way you should have gotten shocked if the DW was grounded properly.

Do have an electrical check out the breaker panel and house wiring in general.

I know what happened now I think and a electrician agrees .It was a combination of Old Breakers and me not checking the power cord I used.
This Maytag is different than the Euro ones and other dishwashers I have had in here.
They used power cable solid copper core and to stiff to get up there so it was about 9 inches to short.
When I bought this place I put a power outlet down there under the sink for the disposer/trash compacter . I took a really thick 3 prong heater 2000 watt power cord and cut it off.
I wired it up right and everything and plugged it in .
Everything was fine until I oped the dishwasher and put some more dishes in there and I closed it and put my hands down there and pushed it and BOOM . I was shocked like hell, lighting came from under the dishwasher, OZONE and the lights were flashing on and off and I heard sizzling from somewhere.
I was not paying attention when I plugged it in. Somebody tore off the grounding prong on top . So it was not ground at all , I had a phone call when I was doing this and was side tracked
The breakers are old ITE from the 60s-70s . Breakers are supposed to break the connection fast , this was very slow and when it finally went it it threw all the 110 breakers but one.
I think I blew a leg or I fried some of the breakers is what I was told by a electrician who is coming tomorrow , it could of killed me . My Dad has even stepped in. I am normally really good at all this stuff . I went to college for it and this is embarrassing saying all of this but, I do have Epilepsy and they have been changing my meds and it kinda makes me spacey, for a few months until my body can adapt to it. With Epilepsy its a damned if you do or damned if you don't and your going to get screwed and NO hug afterwards.
I feel like that guy on Police academy that walk in a room and bad luck follows . Last week I flooded my kitchen bad and this week I took out the power.
