HELP, Please - WU902 Maytag Dishwasher

Hello All,

I have just had a NEW, out of carton, Maytag WU902 dishwasher installed for my Mom.
The problem is, water did come in, it operated briefly and was shut off, now it will not drain and it does not seem to operate at all.

(OK, that's not the only problem...It was MFD in 1985 and has been in the garage since my dad brought it home.)

I called Maytag in a futile attempt to get a manual and wiring diagrams. ANY and all input in solving the problem would be greatly apreciated.

OMG what a wild coincidence! The wiring diagram is in pretty bad shape, but I will bring it back to town and try scanning it for you.
I have a funny feeling there might be timer issue, but I am not sure. If you hit the CANCEL/DRAIN button does anything happen? The timer should click and you should see the wash, rinse, and dry lights light up in succession. If that's the case, the timer may be OK...
After the fill completed, did you hear water moving around in the tub or did you just hear the motor running? It might be belt that is slipping, too.

Paul, Thanks for the reply. Any help on the wiring will be appreciated! When the install was completed the machine filled and started to circulate the water around in the tub. the motor was running and the machine was about as loud as you would expect for the 1980's design. The machine was not permitted to complete the cycle because it was empty. Timer issue, yes it may be... BUT:

When the cancel/drain button was pushed, nothing appeared to happen.
Is the button a momentary?

that they advise to press the start cancel twice, but it is NOT model specific.

With the cancel/drain pushed, about how long should it take for it to respond and drain?

PS: I should also note that the unit is about 2 hours travel time away.

I remember that I had to hold the Cancel/Drain button down for about 10 or 15 seconds to engage it,  but once it did engage, you would hear the timer clicking and the machine would (if I remember correctly) drain, then cycle through WASH-RINSE-DRY, then shut off. 

 

It may just be that the dishwasher needs to be hooked up to the water supply to be tested...  But, I am used to working on the really old dishwashers with a 'timed fill' so manually advancing the timer will bring them through the different cycle phases.

 

Stand by for the wiring diagram - I'll be down at the house in Ogden as of tonight and should be able to scan it for you early next week.

I have the diagram, but I am still trying to do a readable scan... I may have to just copy it and mail it, but I haven't forgotten!!

I got a better result using the scanner at work (better resolution than the very basic one I have  at home!) but it is too big to upload to the board!!  AAARGH!!

wiring diagram

By chance have you taken off and had a look behind the door panel for the wiring diagram? as for manual, I have one for the 202, pretty much the same cycles, if you want an electronic copy let me know. If the machine was NIB, am surprised that the manual was not inside of the machine with all the connection items as well as the warrantee card,ect.

i got both files and have re-emailed them to Mom's so i'll have a reference wource when i get there. Thank YOU very kindly for your help.

69oyu812 - Thank you for the reply. The manual cards etc that were in the box are there. The unit is at my Mom's, about 2hrs one way. When i go there this Sunday some time will be invested in cover removal and troubleshooting. The warranty card is funny; when i called maytag in the search for information i asked about warranty (it being a new install and all) the girl is probably still laughing over our conversation.... The unit was manufactured in 1985 she tell me... yep, BUT it was just now installed... we had a few laughs.

TDude, may be right. Aunt's MTag required holding any of the cycle buttons down till cycle actually started to go. Cancel/drain was the same. Love that d/w.

Wu902 - All's good at this time.

Well, i got there on Mother's day prepared for an electrical challenge... after a few pokes at the buttons we had some action; timer motor, motor etc. The problem was the funky clear belt had broken. I'm picking up a new one today, along with the special lube.
