Hi
Looking for some advice please. We have a Maytag LAT9800AGW which I believe was an export model (we are in the UK. For some months now the machine has occasionally stalled at the start of the cycle (after filling). The motor hums but won't move. After forcing the agitator manually I've been able to get it to kick into action. It has become more frequent so that it's happening on every cycle. Today I removed the belts and found it is a motor issue not transmission (the motor was still stalled after removing the belts and the transmission is easily turned by hand.
My query is that there is a black box with all of the terminals connected on top of the motor. Next to this is a small piece of metal which when operating correctly seems to click and touch on the top motor spindle when it moves to wash or spin. I can also see that there is a spring arrangement in the top of the motor that seems to move and engage at the same time. It's this that appears to be seized. Sometimes it moves and others it won't. I'm unsure if this is a fault with the entire motor or just the little black box. What is the black box? It has a small spring inside and a little plastic lever which seems to engage with the small metal pin. I'm wondering if this is what is faulty? I've posted some pictures below, any advice would be fantastic as otherwise the machine is perfect. Thank you all in advance.
