help with my maytag dryer

can anyone help an old drycleaner with his maytag dryer? My dryer is from the early 1990s. the model # is LDG9306AAE. it is making an scaping sound when I run it. a friend of mine who used to fix maytags told me that its a pad under the motor that is bad. its a gas dryer and I am a bit reluctant to work on it without guidance. can anyone tell me how to take off the front ect? thanks Bill

Scraping Maytag dryer

There’s no pad under the motor that might make a noise but maybe it’s talking about the bearing strips under the drum at the front.

If one or more of those are worn out, they should be replaced soon because it will become metal to metal and it will tear up the drum and the drum shroud

If it has gone to metal and metal, you can replace the pads and reverse the drum so that the rough surface that has been created on the lip of the drum won’t destroy the new pads.

These dryers are fairly easy to take apart just take the front off you do it all from the front remove the front shroud, release the belt, pull the drum out and start inspecting.

If you don’t wanna fool, with it you should get a local appliance guy to do it should be easy to find somebody that can still work on this dryer.

hello friend, My buddy and I tore into the dryer on fri. we checked the pads under the drum and they were fine. but it was the fan that was bad and making all the noise. and also the belt was in need of a change. my buddy ordered the parts online and they were fairly cheap. thanks for the info though, it was much appreciated, thanks Bill

Noisi Maytag dryer

Hi Bill, glad you found the problem. That’s a very common problem for the blower to come loose and need replacement., Usually I think that is more of a rumbling or vibrating sound, but scraping might describe it as well.

Clean everything else up and put a drop or two of oil on the rear rollers, and on the idler, pulley bearing, and hopefully the dryer will be good for quite a few years yet.
